What began with a vision and a love of music over 7 years ago has now been developed into a music production company, music publishing company and record company known as Big Oomp Records. Focusing on finding "real" talents, Big Oomp, CEO and founder of Big Oomp Records has put together a solid roster of artists who are destined to make a big mark on the music industry. The debut release, "Life After Death" by Major Bank, hit the streets of ATL in 1996. Major Bank sold over 5,000 copies without airplay and without distribution.
In 1998, when ATL rap legend Hitman Sammy Sam joined the Oomp Camp, the single "Ridin' Wit Some Playa's" created a huge buzz and the full-length cd "Last Man Standing" helped open doors for the label. By 1999, singles from both Loko and Intoxicated had hit the Billboard rap single charts. Loko's strong debut "Git dat Money" and the underground classic by Intoxicated "Whichaway" recieved critical acclaim by Murder Dog magazine as one of the top 100 southern cd's of all time. By the end of the millennium, Big Oomp Records was just beginning to build momentum.
Then in 2000, Big Oomp Records busted the streets wide-open with a club banger "Eastside vs Westside" by Baby D. This song became a party anthem all over the Southeast and firmly established the Big Oomp sound with rap fans, radio and the music industry. With the commercial success of "Off the Chain" by Baby D, Big Oomp Records continues to break new markets and win loyal fans. In 2001, "We Too Deep" by the Big Oomp Camp featured remixes of all of the label's ghetto hits from the past 6 years like "Knuckle Up", "Back Up", "Git em Shawty" and "DUI". This release displayed the musical growth and production skills of the company.
Each new Big Oomp release has built upon the success of the previous releases. The production team of DJ Montay, MC Assault, DJ Jelly, Freddy B, & Big Oomp continues to create trend setting beats. The promotions & marketing for the label has also expanded with each new release. Currently, the 2nd full-length release by Baby D "Lil Chopper Toy" which features stellar guest appearances hit Billboards Top 100 R&B Albums, Billboards top independent releases and Billboards Heatseekers chart, all in the first week.
What makes Big Oomp Records unique is not just the fact that they have talented producers, a studio and a graphics company, but the fact that they own retail stores that keeps them close to what's selling in the streets.
