MARGARET BERGER –
NEW SINGLE : In a Box/4.E.V.E.R.L.O.V.E (Vinyl/digital)
RELEASE DATE: 21st February 2011
Biography:
It did not take long for Margaret Berger to win the hearts and ears of the Norwegian public.
Her debut album “Chameleon” from 2004 presented a strong, young artist for the present, a
definitive 'one to watch' for the future – and a Top 4 spot on the Norwegian chart.
The follow up “Pretty Scary Silver Fairy” was released throughout Scandinavia in 2006/7 and
revealed an artist approaching her full expression and experimenting with more electronic sounds
for a full on dance and synth spectacular. After working on the album for more than 2 years
in London and Helsinki, together with production luminaries such as Pete Martin (Sugababes,
Danii Minogue, Brand New Heavies) and Jukka Immonen, she found the vision she was eager to
communicate and again a high chart position of 8 was achieved.
Both albums were indisputable sales successes with combined sales of over 33,000 in Norway
alone. Singles such as the shimmering disco number Samantha (#6 on Norwegian chart), Robot,
Will You Remember Me Tomorrow, and Life Time Guarantee were all playlisted on national radio
and the video for the latter received a Spelleman for Best Video in 2005. The same year Margaret
was also nominated for a Spelleman as Best Newcomer.
Since 2006 Margaret has been combining a career as a music producer on national radio station P3
with regular trips to London to conceive the eagerly anticipated followup to her previous album
successes. However, for the last 12 months all distractions have been put aside and 100% focus has
been exerted on her third, as yet untitled, album together with collaborator and producer Tomas
Nerbø Smågesjø in their studio in Trondheim. Margaret has come a long way from her debut
as a 17 year old fresh faced girl from the middle of Norway. She's developed into a bona fide
personality and an artist who thrives best in the synthetic world, who embraces elements like synth,
fantasy, sci-fi, rave, neon and who successfully harnesses them into a unique blend of discopop,
house, and electro.
The first single from the new album – In A Box/ 4.E.V.E.R.L.O.V.E – will be released on the 21st
February 2011 to coincide with her performances at by:Larm. The album is scheduled for release in
September.

Press:
“A harmonious cohabitation of electronic beats and rock guitars, within a plush, polished pop
context, in a manner that hasn't been particularly prevalent (in mainstream music anyway) since
the '80s. As a showcase for the 19-year-old Berger's remarkably rich, mature voice, it's impressive
and charismatic.” Review of Chameleon from AllMusic.com 2006
“To be honest, though, I’m more into moments—of which Berger provides many. Take, for
instance, the end of opener “Silver Fairy” when she tells the engineer to go to the next track or
when “Naïve (16)” turns into Bambaataa-electro for about ten seconds. Like Robyn, these quirks
are what lift Pretty Scary Silver Fairy out of the morass of most Scandisugarlectropop. That
and absolutely immaculate production. (Grade B+) “ Review of Pretty Scary Silver Fairy from
Stylusmagazine.com 2007
“.a full-fledged triumph of 21st century electronic pop, every bit the equal of more heralded recent
releases by her countrywoman Annie and their Swedish compatriot Robyn. "Will You Remember
Me Tomorrow?" is a sunburst of melody and synthetic groove, whose wide-eyed tale of glorious
and unexpected new love is undercut with the plaintive uncertainty of the rather melodramatic
doubt expressed in its title. "Samantha" might be even better; a pulsating neon disco stomper whose
lyrical pep talk to a brokenhearted girlfriend -- "lift your head up high, girl/you need to be yourself"
-- is as anthemic as they come. (4.5/5) Review of Pretty Scary Silver Fairy from AllMusic.com
2007
«Pretty Scary Silver Fairy» er dog først og fremst en plate det oser klasse av. Mer sofistikert pop
enn «I'm Gonna Stay After Summer» og «Naive (16)» er det vanskelig å be om. Albumet er preget
av kontroll, identitet og en klar visjon. Margaret er både flørtende diskodronning og distansert
isprinsesse. (5/6) Review of Pretty Scary Silver Fairy from VG 2006
