The Beat Junkies, internationally recognized as an unparalleled musical phenomenon, innovated an original DJ artform that continues to entertain and inspire all realms of the music sphere. This crew of DJ virtuosos is comprised of nine accomplished musicians: J.Rocc, DJ Curse , Rhettmatic, Babu, Melo-D, "DJ What?!", Mr. Choc, and Shortkut. Stemming from various mobile DJ units throughout Los Angeles County and the Bay Area, these artists came together in the early '90s, and introduced a masterful musical style that transformed the DJ artform throughout the world.



Talented veterans in creating original compositions, the Beat Junkies introduced their unique DJ forte to audiences on every continent. Their signature music formula, which has become internationally labeled as the "Beat Junkie Style", encompasses a practice that takes years to attain. The practice of precision, along with a driving imagination to create music incorporating the DJ techniques such as the blend and the scratch, have become the main factors in defining their distinguished expertise.



Success has surrounded the Beat Junkies since the start of the new millennium. In 2001, Beat Junkie artists, J.Rocc, Rhettmatic and Babu completed an eight-week, 45-city tour throughout the United States, in which they showcased their turntable expertise of combining creativity and skilled precision to invent explosive musical compositions. This heavily documented tour, entitled "Word-of-Mouth", featured internationally acclaimed artists, including Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples and MC Supernatural. "Word-of-Mouth" proved to be one of the most highly anticipated tours in 2001, with 90% of the show's concert venues filled to maximum capacity. The House of Blues - Los Angeles and New Orleans, the legendary Fillmore - San Francisco, and Irving Plaza - New York, all housed sold-out crowds that greatly added to the tour's high level of intensity and energy.



Nonetheless, DJ Curse, is one of the original Beat Junkies, the man who started this crew, along with J Rocc way back when they met at the opening of "Funky Town Records," Torrance, CA in the Summer of 1991. What up KWAN! Curse's career spans the infancy of Block Rockin Hip-Hop in the early 80's to the Generation of DJ's rockin parties World Wide. Another previous Beat Junkie highlight included the former Jimmy & Doug's Farmclub.com television show. Broadcast on the USA network, Farmclub.com unanimously selected Beat Junkie artists Curse, Melo-D and "DJ What?!" as the program's talented "house band". This variety show, hosted by former MTV VJ, Matt Pinfield, and actress Ally Landry (Felicity - WB Network), featured world renowned solo artists and bands, including Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, No Doubt, Everclear, and Kid Rock. The Beat Junkies etched their mark in television history by becoming the first DJ crew to claim a permanent band position on a national television program. The Beat Junkies showcased their turntable talent throughout Farmclub.com's first season, diversifying the DJ audience to a wider realm.



The Beat Junkies continue to share their signature style with music enthusiasts, both in the national and international markets. Their musical sounds attract fans from countries, including Switzerland, Germany, France, Japan, England, and Canada.



J.Rocc, along with the Fantastik 4our members Mr. Choc, Truly Odd and C-Minus dominates the Los Angeles radio scene with "Friday Night Flavas". Showcased on the 1 urban radio station in Los Angeles - Power 106 (KPWR - FM). "Friday Night Flavas" is the only Hip-Hop radio show in the country that introduces groundbreaking and raw underground Hip-Hop week after week. DJ Melo-D, who continuously inspires audiences with his musical talent, also serves as the President of Beat Junkies, Inc., the crew's independently owned and operated corporation created to tackle the assortment of Beat Junkie projects. "DJ What?!" repeatedly captures and expands the Beat Junkies' niche by producing dynamic events (weekly and monthly) that attract a wide range of music lovers. His ability to draw large gatherings is due to the variety of music genres delivered at his events, including Reggae, breaks, and Hip-Hop. Babu and Rhettmatic each share their turntable talent with two commanding Hip-Hop bands that undoubtedly achieved a towering level of success the past two years. Babu, a leading figure of Dilated Peoples, and Rhettmatic, a major force of the Visionaries, are accomplished in tackling their DJ roles with the above bands. The creative freedom found in Dilated Peoples and the Visionaries allows them to produce masterpieces and execute the "Beat Junkie Style" with solid expertise.



Collectively, the Beat Junkies are consistently highlighted in leading publications, including URB, Rolling Stone, The Source, and Mass Appeal. The group earned numerous individual and team awards, including the titles of International Turntablist Federation (ITF) World Team Champions in 1997 and 1998 (Babu, J.Rocc, Melo-D, and Rhettmatic), ITF USA Team Champions in 1997 (Babu, Curse and Melo-D), and the Vestax Team World Champions in 1996 (Babu and Melo-D). The Beat Junkies are featured in two prized films that achieved recognition and extended media coverage at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival in Utah, including the Scratch (www.scratchmovie.com) and Keepintime.



2002 continues to bring excitement to the Beat Junkies. A primary goal accomplished last February included the global introduction of Beat Junkies, Inc. This parent company manages and supports various Beat Junkie blueprints, and serves as the backbone in establishing Beat Junkie Sound, the group's self-operating, independent record label. This past August, the Beat Junkies launched their first album on their notable record label entitled "Classic Material". This project encompasses the musically innovative and ingenious tracks produced and performed by the Beat Junkie artists between the years of 1995 and 2000. The songs featured on this album are timeless musical arrangements that audiences will value throughout the decades.



Along with "Classic Material", the Beat Junkies recently introduced three singles on Beat Junkie Sound, which have gained international recognition and media attention. The first single produced by the legendary Bumrush Brothers (J.Rocc and Babu) entitled "Gold Chain Music" features Planet Asia and Evidence. "Sick Days", the second single released on Beat Junkie Sound, hails production credits to Rhettmatic (Remix by J.Rocc), whose track features LMNO of the Visionaries and cuts by Melo-D. The newest single released on the label is "Live from Master Control" produced by Babu, featuring Iriscience, Phil the Agony, Evidence, Krondon, Planet Asia, Akil, Chace Infinite, and Chali 2na from Jurassic 5.
