Some bands should not be taken lightly. This one is the real deal. Forming in Sydney in 1983, the Beasts Of Bourbon are one of Australia’s most influential and iconic rock acts.

Having delivered seven albums of excoriating low-life rock n’ roll and carved their name indelibly into Australian folklore, their first three groundbreaking albums are now Digitally Remastered & available for the first time in one essential box set.

Presented by Inertia’s newly-launched in-house label, Provenance, these Australian rock classics come complete with a 32 page booklet of exclusive liner notes, rare photographs, and prefaces from each band member.

Released over a six year period – beginning with debut ‘The Axeman’s Jazz’ in 1984, following by ‘Sour Mash’ in 1988, and culminating with ‘Black Milk’ in 1990 – the Beasts’ first three albums are an unparalleled dirge of muddy swamp, blues-infused pub rock, and whiskey-fuelled punk. In (evil) spirit, the group are akin to AC/DC, The Stones & The Birthday Party. In real life, however, their lineage encompasses The Johnnys, The Surrealists, The Cruel Sea, The New Christs, Louis Tillet, Paul Kelly, Rowland Howard, Andre Williams, and Tex, Don & Charlie; not to mention loads of other crash-&-burn blues/punk rock outfits that have littered the rock’n’roll highway over the last quarter century.

With an original line-up consisting of Tex Perkins (The Cruel Sea) on vocals, Spencer Jones (The Johnnys) and Kim Salmon (The Scientists) on guitars, James Baker (The Hoodoo Gurus) on drums, and Boris Sudjovic (The Scientists) on bass; the Beasts Of Bourbon are one of Australia’s most notorious supergroups.

Possessing detailed notes and anecdotes surrounding each of these albums inside the 32-page-booket, the Beasts Of Bourbon Box Set is an essential collection of three of Australian rock’s filthiest and most visceral classics.

With a sound that has resonated through generations of Australian music, and can still be heard today – from West Coast to East Coast, everywhere from jarring blues-rock of Perth’s Snowman and inaugural winners of the AMP prize The Drones, to the garage punk abandon of Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring – the Beasts Of Bourbon are an integral reference point for any Australian music aficionado, and essential listening for any fan of drawling, guttural, rock ‘n’ roll.
