Barry Palmer & John Payne (Asia) - collaborated together in 1985 and released this cover single under the Pseudonym of a unknown 1980's duo called 'Cover Up'
John Payne of course is best known for his Asia fame and connections.
Although many people have covered this song over the past 40 years or so,Barry Palmer and John Payne's superb 1985 cover version of this song does not appear, therefore making this cover version extremely rare and to most people, a version of a very popular 1970's hit song that few people will have heard or had the opportunity to listen to.
Barry & John's cover version features Barry's unique powerful high rock voice for which he is most famous with German Prog Rock Super Group Triumvirat as their lead vocalist, followed by lead vocalist for the legendary Mike Oldfield (Discovery Album - 1984/1985)
Although Barry and John have kept mainly to the original Stephen Stills arrangement making this track instantly recognisable as soon as it is played, listen out for Barry's unique high rock voice thereby making this cover version more in keeping with the traditional way he likes to perform.
For those of you who like Barry Palmer's vocals and there are truly many fans all around the world, you are in for a real treat as despite its age, you will want to play this version of 'Love the one you're with' time and time again. 'Love the one you're with' was a 1970 hit single written by folk rocker Stephen Stills. Born (3rd January 1945) Stephen Stills is an American singer/songwriter/guitarist who is best known for his work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young).
This song was the first release from his solo debut Stephen Stills, peaking at No. 14 in the Billboard Hot 100.
Stills wrote the song after being inspired by the tag line - "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" which was a frequent remark by musician Billy Preston. Stills asked him for permission to use the line in a song and Preston agreed immediately.
This first (and most familiar) of Stills' solo singles, 'Love The One You're With' followed the singles from Déjà Vu in smooth succession and thus got wrapped into the whole CS&N storybook, appearing on the live 4-Way Street soon after.
A live version by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young appears on their album '4 Way Street'
