Barend plays bass guitar, guitar and sitar. Before he used to play Chapman Stick for 4 years as well.



Barend has played in many bands. Among others in Arabesque, Lemur voice, Darshan and Slow Poke Rogrigo.



Also he played guitar in an acoustic trio called Venus Monkey.
Which is more singer songwriter kind of stuff, but of course in our own way.



Besides playing in bands he also composes his own music and has released two cds with his own songs. At the moment he is working on a new solo cd containing twelve new songs. The new songs have a lot of influences from world music.
Besides studying guitar and music science, he also studied 4 years of sitar with Darshan Kumari and he studied sitar in India for 6 months sitar with Jyoti Thakar.
Barend also works as a guitar teacher on several music schools.
I am working with guitar virtuoso Joop Wolters (former Arabesque mate) again, for his live band.
At the moment he is also playing in the discoband Newz from Tilburg.



I also play in a vintage rockband called Troublemagnet.
And also some new fusion worldmusic projects with guitar player Erik van de Kerkhof in which I play sitar, fretless bass and upright bass
Recently started playing acoustic upright bass. Practising my hands off right now
Writing workshops for the dutch bass magazine 'de Bassist'
Currently working on a new sitar fusion project.
