David Paton was lead singer of the 1970s band Pilot, and he wrote their two big hits, "Magic" and "January." They also charted with "Just A Smile" and "Call Me Round" before splitting up later that decade. Since then David has been in demand as a session musician and among his impressive credits he played on several Elton John albums and the worldwide No.1 hit by Kate Bush, "Wuthering Heights."
He still gigs now and has a new solo album out called "Under The Sun."
He appeared live on Hugh Brown's "Golden Brown" programme on Radio Borders on May 6th 2012 for a chat about the hit days of the 70s, his time in the Bay City Rollers pre-Pilot, his session work and his current career. He also performed the hit song "Just A Smile" in the studio. It's all included here. Enjoy!
