In the new world of Banawurun exists a vast spectrum of roots, rock, soul and country music where the bombast meets the beautiful and hard hitting lyrics meet stories of Indigenous Australia. Soul is the teacher, rock’n’roll is the preacher and the lesson is loud and clear.

Banawurun (meaning “Running Water” in Gu Gu Yelanji language) first emerged from the dust in 2006 and have since become one of Australia’s most loved Indigenous touring acts. With Matabele Zimbabwean woman Trevelyn Brady and Gu Gu Yelanji/Birra Gubba man Troy Brady sharing vocal and song writing duties, the band’s compelling blend of musical influences sees them take the baton from iconic acts like Warumpi Band and Yothu Yindi to cement their place in Australian rock history.

“Banawurun are the most electrifying soul act in the country right now - combining Indigenous spirituality and socially aware lyrics with a ballsy Rock’n’Roll meets Afro Motown sound." Morgyn Quinn, Director Island Vibe/Kuranda Roots Festivals

“Banawurun’s dynamic performances at both The Dreaming and Woodford Folk Festivals left audiences longing for more. The reflection of historical, social and environmental global messages in Banawurun’s lyrics and eclectic music crosses cultural barriers and places them at the forefront of Indigenous contemporary music.” Rhoda Roberts, Director, The Dreaming Festival
