In her own words Bambi states,"Without confidence in self you're twice defeated in life" Which is a motto she lives by and that which drives her to become a success in this male dominated business.Novrica Mercedes Powell aka "Bambi" was born in Brooklyn, NewYork and was raised in Willodene, Spanish Town,Jamaica from she was 4 months old until she turned 5 years old. After returning to the U.S. she continued to visit Jamaica during her summer breaks. During those visits she started developing a growing interest into her Reggae Roots through singing and dancing to hit Reggae and Dancehall music from that period. According to Bambi, some of her musical inspirations were Lil Kim, Queen Pen, Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu among many others. As she got more into Dancehall she got inspiration from listening to Sister Nancy, Sister Charmane, Shelly Thunda, Lady G, Patra, Lady Saw, Macka Diamond, Tanya Stephens, and other Hip Hop and Alternative Rock Groups.Bambi was first discovered in 2005 by an audio recording engineer named Afrikan from Brooklyn, NYC .Her first hit single "Bad Gal Forward, Bad Gal Pull-up" was a phenomenon in New York City and around the world during 2006. Since then, she has performed in various venues among some of her influences, such as Major Mackrel, Junior Demus, Sister Charmaine, Shine Head, and Spragga Benz. Spragga Benz has deemed her as the "First Lady" of his "Red Square" music production team .Spragga Benz also featured her in his "Pon Di Willy" video where she displayed her dancing abilities.Currently, she's working with some of today's top Hip Hop / Reggae Dance Hall Producers. Look out for her upcoming single entitled "Tan Tuddy" produced by Jah Snowcone off the "South Bronx" riddim compilation. As Bambi stated in one of her song's "Anything is possible, nuh tell me seh me cyah" which is why she continues to promote herself as a Disc Jockey along with two other females forming one of the leading female Sound Systems "Vybz Ladyz". Playing her own music is just a starting point to making it to the top as a Artiste. According to Bambi, her mother always told her "Any path with no obstacles probably doesn't lead anywhere".With hard work, determination and THE MOST HIGH in her heart,Bambi will achieve her dream and become one of todays top female Artiste even with the many obstacles placed before her.
