Over the years, BadKat has shared the stage with the likes of KRS One, De La Soul, Aceyalone, K-the-i???, John Robinson, Bahamadia, Sister Fa, Dres the Beatnik, Professor Griff, NY Oil, Ishues, Yara Bravo, Bajka and Doria Roberts, to name a few.
BadKat's stage performance is undoubtedly her strongest suit, and is rapidly gaining a reputation for being the crowd favorite at any event. She can freestyle with the best, and is known to kick extra flavor with her exquisite singing melodies and improvised harmonies. Her music is influenced by a wide range of genres, from Blues, Jazz, Rock and Funk, to grimy Hip Hop and electronic sounds. Performing live for over 15 years, there are few that can compare to her crowd control. Even at 5 foot 3 inches tall, she stands out in a crowd and is never short of amazing.
BadKat first began performing in North Carolina as a member of 'FUnQtion' (1994-1999). BadKat later returned to her childhood home, Tallahassee, Florida, only to relocate once again to the music mecca of the South – Athens/Atlanta, Georgia. She soon published her debut solo project 'badkat unreleased' (2006). Receiving strong local and regional support, she used the momentum to organize several community outreach projects to help foster the talents of young artists throughout the area.
In 2008, BadKat released IndiHop – a tribute mixtape to the indi-rock era with bold commentary on the political, economic and social state of the US. With remixes of songs such as Terrible Lie (NIN), Here Comes Your Man (Pixies), and The Waitress (Tori Amos), she was able to cover a wide range of emotional and thought provoking content.
In 2008, her first European performance was at Hip Hop Kemp (Prague, Czechia). Following a short tour, BadKat found her next home in Berlin, DE. In June 2010, she released her sophomore album 'Knuckle Sandwich', featuring several producers from Germany, and her Irish DJ, Giotto. It was mentioned in several major Hip Hop publications, including RAPmag (FR), Star Wax
(Intl), backspin (DE), and Missy (DE) to name a few. As an independent release, it made some noise.
Currently, she is finishing her new album, to be released in the fall of 2012. Highly anticipated, fans are already talking about it's natural marriage of Hip Hop and dubstep sounds "the way it's supposed to be done." At recent performances, the duo has tested out some of the new tunes and the overwhelming response has been "Hell yea!!" Whopping, driving bass lines, crisp hi-hats and snares, and a valley in the frequencies custom for BadKat's vocals. Basically, it rocks.
Fans are invigorated by the combination of BadKat and Giotto's styles. Music made for dancing, lyrics made for thinking, and a performance made for an adrenaline rush leaves the audience feeling like they got their money's worth by the end of it all.
BadKat is currently booking dates for 2012-2013 in support of her new album "Trapped in a World Behind My Eyelids."
