Background Noise Suppression was created in early 2005, in Thessaloniki, Greece by Kostas Karantzios (Vocals), Elias Panagos (Guitars), George Xenos (Drums) and Kostas Kapetanakis (Bass). From the first year of existence and after composing a number of songs, the band made a lot of live appearances in Thessaloniki and other cities with the most important being the live support appearance to the legendary New Model Army in Thessaloniki, April of 2006.

During summer of 2006, Background Noise Suppression recorded their first single release, titled ‘Made Out Of Ocean’ which was later (2007) included, partially re-recorded and re-mixed, in the double RunDevilRun label CD-collection ‘Little People Big Noise’, along with the participation of greek and foreign bands. At summer of 2006 Johnny Papaioannou became the dedicated bassist of the band, contributing his dirty riffs and inspirations to the whole musical image. This new boost to the band's sound, gave the opportunity to create a new style and songs which accompanied the band during the gigs in Thessaloniki and other major cities in Greece (Serres, Kavala, Larisa, Athens). Later on the band gives an interview/presentation for Rainbow 89.0 FM radio in Thessaloniki as well as an unplugged performance of several songs. In addition it participates in the Coca Cola Soundwave Festival – with a live appearance in Thessaloniki including TV shows (Oxygono show – ET3, Coca Cola Soundwave Festival TV). At that time, the bass parts of ‘Made Out Of Ocean’ are re-recorded, the track gets a re-mix and is being included in ‘Little People Big Noise’. A music video for the song is also released.

Coming to 2009, the band makes two final additions. Larry (keys/synths) and Every (Guitar) came to finalize the group's musical frame and shaping song's identity. Speaking of today, the band has already discovered its sound and musical style, a mix of alternative rock, punk and pop, which proudly calls ‘Dirty Pop’. The noise of cities

This is how we firstly started to hear and interpret behind ‘senders’ and ‘receivers’. “Welcome to noise”, they said and we believed it. The signs sometimes naked and raw and sometimes completely indifferent. Behind sounds there are secrets put there on purpose, but facts as well. Cities accordingly started to code their noises too. It was something like taking care of their intellectual property. Nowadays, its quite often cities to be identified by their coded sounds and noises. For example the noise in Montmarte in France at noon is slightly different to the noise of a European pub located in Belgium but completely different to the noise produced at the same time in a nomadic society somewhere in the Asian steppes.

In music the word ‘noise’ is being widely used for years now in sound shaping and composition techniques. Always with care and wisdom though. You have to ‘conquer’ that ‘noise’ and give it your identity and face. Otherwise, there is always a significant danger of becoming a bad ‘sender’ yourself and proving the general rule. A friend from the past once mentioned that: “we suppress the city noises replacing them with our music instead”.

Talking about ‘noise’ does not necessarily mean that we are referring to an enemy. It’s more alike talking about a distant relative that we somehow lost his tracks, therefore we treat him with caution and respect. However, that’s something we are still working on and new things are to be discovered, especially through music. Please, respect the city noises. They have all the gentleness they deserve…
