A child was born in Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, in the 1970's, to Robert Golden and Saundra Battle. Both parents were heroin addicts, so the cliche is true here. Drugs, death and incarceration destroyed his family. He lost his mother when he was seven and his father at nineteen. His mother used to call him her "man" and would play her music and dance with him, he'd hear "I heard it thru the grapevine" by Marvin Gaye or "Baby love" by the Supremes, but drugs killed what could have been.
The one thing that was always constant in his lifeMusic. Never ever thinking that he himself could be a star one day, music just became his escape from hell. He began to pen songs before and while incarcerated. His musical journey originally began when « I cram ta understand (Sam) » by MC LYTE was released to worldwide acclaim. Around that time a group was born: "R and R Productions". The two members names were Robert ; DJ and rapper. Their careers were cut short by death and incarceration. Raised in the streets of Brooklyn, in a place called "the 90's" in East Flatbush known for it's gangsters, murderers, drug dealers, major criminals, BabyFace Fensta got caught up in that seductive lifestyle at an early age. Around the end of '93 towards the beginning of '94, 'Face linked up with famed producer and partner of the Ol'Dirty Bastard of the Wutang Clan, Buddha Monk. Buddha whom Face has known for years before they linked up again, brought him into the fold (approved by Ol'Dirty) and put him down with his group "the Manchuz". Face was singing at this time and not rapping but, he said: "…being around Buddha, Ol'Dirty, Brooklyn Zu, Zu Ninjaz and the Manchuz, I rediscovered my love of hip hop". He performed and toured the country with Ol'Dirty and the whole Zu Family while on parole and with no permission. "That's living hip hop, no matter the consequences!" BabyFace has been on stages with the WUTANG CLAN, LIL VICIOUS, BUSTA RHYMES and SPLIFFSTAR, MOBB DEEP and A+ to name a few. He has also performed on and contributed to BUDDHA MONK'S the PROPHECY album released on EDEL AMERICA in '98 to critical acclaim. The three songs on that album are: BANG IT YA WHIP, WARRIOR CHIEFS AND EASTSIDE STORY. That album received an Award in Africa! And PAPA WU's VISIONZ OF THE TENTH CHAMBER, released on 404 MUSIC in '00. The two songs on that album are REDRUM and PREPARE FOR THE BUDDHA MONK which also featured the OL' DIRTY BASTARD. Babyface Fensta is also the creator of a new format for rap which he calls THE NO LIKE STYLE.
Lately, BabyFace Fensta has been touring Europe and collaborating with artists across the globe. Sky is no limit for this original artist who's very different from your run of the mill that's saturating the business. BabyFace Fensta is an industry veteran ready for primetime and armed with an arsenal of music for the masses to consume. He is THE TOTAL PACKAGE: a producer, a lyricist, a singer, a rocker, just a Mr. Do it all! Oh, and he's got a the cutest little babyface!
