Firemen.true love.loss…cross-dressing. These are just a few of the themes explored by songstress Aynsley Saxe on her forthcoming release, Take Me As I Am.
Her feature single, "Stop, Drop & Roll" (The Fireman Song) was released in November 2012 as a CD single & free digital download. Even before the recording was finished, its teaser preview on YouTube attracted over 850 views and a tv commercial licensing deal for the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Calendar. The commercial will air provincially from October through December on Global TV to raise money for the Burn Fund.
But it's not all about the firemen. Take Me As I Am strikes a balance between hilarity and passionate honesty. Known for her emotional ballads and smooth vocal styling, Aynsley is not afraid to spice things up, adding a dash of the risqué to her piano-driven melodies.
Appearing live with 88 keys, her soulful melodies and intimate performance style have prompted requests for Kleenex, chocolate, and razor blades. Some say it's the kind of music Sarah McLachlan might write with Dar Williams in Jewel's backyard. Either way, it's not uncommon for laughter at a show to compete with the next witty hook, while the following song's naked tenderness may move some listeners to tears.
Ever a student of her craft, Aynsley fell into songwriting while on a youth exchange in New Zealand. She has since written scores for internationally acclaimed short films, performed sold-out shows in Toronto, and studied with well-known songwriters and vocal coaches across Canada and the United States.
As a classically trained pianist, her beginnings were founded in her parents' love of music, and her deep love of words. Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen were regular contributors to the soundtrack of her childhood. Her fascination with lyrics grew through the years, influencing her to eventually graduate with an Honours B.A. in English/Film from the University of Western Ontario. During her time in school Aynsley also discovered energy healing, eventually becoming an accredited Reiki teacher and practitioner.
Aynsley seeks to nurture and uplift in all she does. Her music is a journey of the heart, a reminder that we are not alone. She knows the healing power of laughter, and believes in listening to your inner guidance. She is excited to share Take Me As I Am with the world and, with over 23,000 hits on MySpace, she is not the only one eagerly awaiting the release.
