She’s got that fire in her eyes, hunger in her heart and the talent to match. With a voice as smooth as honey, Ayana John, has managed to create a buzz in her homeland, Barbados, as one of the finest Soul acts, to date, and the interest has extended throughout the wider region and beyond.
Boasting a long history in entertainment ,Ayana John began acting in small theatrical plays from the age of 9 years, then pursued dance at the age of 11 years training in the art of Khatak, a form of Indian dance and Jazz.
During the Ms. Barbados Universe pageant, Ayana received her first Barbados Music Awards nomination for Best Dance Single, ‘Bajan Story’ on which she collaborated with Barbadian Reggae Artiste Buggy Fully Loaded.
In 2007, she released her solo self-penned effort, Guns and Roses, which proved to be a smash hit in her country receiving another nomination at The BMAs for Best Music Video.
Collaborating once again with producer KB Sharp, the tracks, ‘Bajan Story’ and ‘Guns and Roses’ were followed up by the single which had dominated airplay in Barbados in the year 2008, ‘Paper Chase’. The single featured Barbadian Reggae Artiste LRG, and received a record 15,000 downloads on the local download site, Gotrhythm.com, making it the highest downloaded locally produced song, to date.
Receiving 4 nominations in the year 2009 for Best R&B/Soul Artiste, Best Collaboration, Song of the Year - ‘Paper Chase’ and Female Entertainer of the Year at the BMAs, Ayana John was asked to perform as a part of the Awards’ ceremony’s entertainment package. Putting down one of the best performances ever at the BMAs, Ayana was asked to meet Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe Award winner Regina Belle backstage at the awards who were suitably impressed.
Also, Glamour Magazine’s fashion editor Kirk Shannon-Butts approached Ayana about being featured on the magazine’s website where the artiste discusses her fashion dos and don’ts and also scored a feature on the New York Carib News web-mag.

In May 2009, Ayana’s self-entitled debut album was officially launched showcasing the artiste’s body of work for the past two years.
The album receives great airplay in the Caribbean Mecca of Entertainment, Jamaica and received a BMA nomination for Album of the Year, 2010. Along with securing subsequent nominations for Female Entertainer of the Year, Best Collaboration for the dance hit, ‘Pose’ featuring Grammy nominated Reggae/ Danechall artiste Elephant Man and R&B/Soul Artiste of the Year, for the artiste.
Her sophomore album for 2010 - Royal Blue is now available on iTunes. A six-track mini-album which is self-penned, the selections are refreshing and unique.
Ayana is backed by the recently formed BLUE - The Band. Formed in 2010, the members are a group of talented musicians, hand-picked by Ayana herself.
Two dynamic albums, 4 local and regional back to back hit songs, performance placement at top shows from Barbados to Virginia, Ayana John has proved she can attract a large fan base with her unique material and powerful performances. An energy that is waiting to embrace the universe.
