There wasn't much to do in Martinez, California. We have an oil refinery, lots of antique shops and the house of famed naturalist John Muir. We grew up on Ren and Stimpy and the Marx Brothers. These days Martinez has a terrific close-knit community of motivated artists and extremely creative individuals that have formed a bond through mutual support and encouragement. Maybe it was the refinery.
Auntie Depressant is mostly a recording project, though on occasion we have performed as a trio with Bobby Gibbs and later Scott Bird on drums.
The earliest recordings began in 2002 with Nick Abreu and Kyle Riggs. In September of 2006 we re-recorded some of these songs and put together an EP called "We're an American Bland."
In October 2006, we recorded and released a CD of live improvised noise music called "The Nudist."
Two months later, "For Entertainment and Self Indulgence" was recorded and released. It contains a lot of improvised rock music as well as some material composed as a 5 piece group.
Most recently we have recorded an album called "Genius Christ: In God We Thrust" that is was made available online in June 2010. Half of the songs were written in one session using the Immersion Composition Method (www.ics-hub.org).
We are currently working on 4-track recordings for an upcoming project.
