SPO-DEE-O-DEE: THE HOUSE IS ROCKIN!
Spo-Dee-O-Dee are old blokes in the so-called „ Cat Band“ circuit and preached their sound worldwide. Like a lots af other bands pure Rockabilly isn’t the main thing after all those years and they are influenced also by Westernswing to Teenbeat and between. Talking about their qualities as musicians is senseless, but a lot of water running down the river since their last release. Well, like a lots of other bands too they have an fair amount of selfpenned material and this time they offer us more of this, than covers. The first two songs on this 14 track album are well picked covers and with the wellknown “ The House Is Rockin’” and “ I Got Made…” they done it right – goodie ones. Followed by two “ typical “ Spo-Dee-O-Dee tunes, written by Frontman A. Warner, “ Another Heart” ( midtempo with a lots of drive) and Who Needs A Heart” . “ Hey Little Baby Doll” is written by Axel Praefcke ( Ike & the Capers etc. ) and remind to some 6’s stuff of Burnette. “ Remember Last Night” – well, a usual ballad, if you dig that stuff – nice!! Selfpenned “ Lil Lucy “ is an ace instro-rocker – also the the vocaltune “ That’s My Baby “ – good catchy rockin’ tune. Another raw cover with “ Love Bug” in typical Spo-Dee-O-Dee stile and four more selfpenned tunes, where “ You Ain’t Doing Me Right” catched me the most and will find the way to the dancefloors for sure. “ Fancy Dan” what can I say – again !!! A real good version with a fresh breath !!! At last an alt. take of “ Somebody’s Foll” , this time with a bit more “ feeling” . Well, Spo-Dee-O-Dee are always guarantee something new and they deliver again their best album so far !!! An extra goodie is the more than well done coverartwork!!!
