------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Andy Hickie is a roaming singer songwriter from the mountains of North Wales. Spending the last three years touring the UK and Ireland, Andy has established a firm reputation on the touring circuit, built on the quality of his songs and the high energy of his live performances. Living out on the road in his trusty camper van 'Dean', Andy has been earning his troubadour stripes gigging, collecting stories and sharing his songs the old fashioned way.
Andy's debut EP 'The Other Man' achieved plays on BBC Radio Wales, and also won him the opportunity to perform at Glastonbury Festival, amongst other UK festivals. It was the Glastonbury performances for which Andy formed the band that would eventually become The Merry Maidens – a collection of musicians and good friends from the North Wales music scene.
With his guitar and harmonica Andy has been described as "The Welsh Bob Dylan", by radio DJ's and fans alike, singing his tales of freedom, love, and life on the road, as well as his powerful singing of traditional Folk ballads. When joined by The Merry Maidens, the seven-piece group fuse their influences of folk-rock, roots, and alternative sounds to create a gathering of folk like no other.
Andy Hickie along with The Merry Maidens has just recorded his debut album 'I'd Rather Be Ramblin'. Recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Mid Wales, the debut album is due for release on June 1st 2011, followed by a live tour of the UK and festival appearances.
