The Dillards and The Andy Gillards

Sometimes I think its a shame that The Dillards are only known as The Darling Boys from The Andy Griffith Show. Yes the show played a role in their success, but trust me, there is way more to The Dillards than the Andy Griffith Show. Doug Dillard has been called one of the greatest banjo pickers to ever play the instrument, and enough cannot be said about Dean Webbs abilities on the mandolin. In the early 60s, the Dillards made the move from Missouri to California. Success came almost instantly with a record deal as well an opportunity to guest appear on The Andy Griffith Show. Over the years, changes in The Dillards lineup would take place, Doug would leave to do great things in the world of music, Rodney would keep The Dillards name and the band together. Today, although Mitch Jayne has retired, Dean Webb is performing in Branson Missouri with the Missouri Boatride, and Rodney and Doug continue to perform.
