An ode to the joys of motherhood, the solo debut by Aterciopelados vocalist Andrea Echeverri delivers a refreshingly frank account of her pregnancy and the birth of her baby daughter.Echeverris crystalline vocals soar whenever she describes her new sense of womanhood but she has lost none of her humor.

-Rolling Stone

Echeverris album is a lively, rich and mature mixture of alt-rock, Latin traditions, and playful splashes of American country and African highlife. Songs such as A-Eme-O and Baby Blues bend with minor harmonies well suited for Echeverris honey- and smoke-tinged vocals and which, not unlike the tone of a Garcia-Marquez fable, carry a melodic thread of sweet melancholy.

-Associated Press

"Andrea Echeverri, co-founder of the groundbreaking Aterciopelados,

is rightly accorded all the respect of an artistic empress."

-LA Weekly

2005 & 2006

Best known as the frontwoman for acclaimed Colombian Latin alternative band Aterciopelados, Andrea Echeverri has long captivated audiences with her potently melodic brand of feminism. On March 8th, her debut solo album Andrea Echeverri will be released by Nacional Records, the new Warner Music Group-distributed label focused on promoting the best in Latin alternative music.

After the critical and commercial success of 2001's "Gozo Poderoso", which landed Aterciopelados on the Top 10 of the Billboard Top Latin Albums Sales chart as well as a coveted appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Echeverri took time off for the birth of her first child Milagros, who has proven to be a new point of artistic inspiration. The result is the self-titled album Andrea Echeverri, Andreas first solo release. The disc was produced by Hector Buitrago from Aterciopelados and mixed by Thom Russo (Juanes, Kinky, Johnny Cash), and also features a remix from Richard Blair (Sidestepper).

On A Eme O, the albums upbeat first single, Echeverri sings "Since you were born, Ive become a better lover. It's as if youve unplugged my tubes." On the chill-out lullaby track Baby Blues, she observes the bond between mother and daughter as Milagros cries late at night. "Some songs are written for Milagros, but they sound like they're written for a lover," said Echeverri. Going ever further, she satirizes the highly sexualized lyrics of the Colombian genre called champeta, naming one of the albums tracks Lactochampeta. Its kind of a joke, because it has explicit lyrics about lactating, muses Echeverri.

After a recent series of successful tour dates (including headlining the Latin Alternative Music Conferences Women Who Rock concert in front of 10,000 people at the Santa Monica Pier, as well as the recent La Banda Elastica Magazine Awards), Andrea Echeverri looks forward to spending additional time visiting U.S. markets in the spring of 2006 in support of her new album on Nacional Records. With a backing band featuring members of Aterciopelados, longtime fans of the group can also look forward to new interpretations of Aterciopelados classics.

2008

Nacional Records is proud to announce that Colombian music icons Aterciopelados are set to release their highly-anticipated new studio album 'Rio' ('River') on October 21st, 2008. The follow-up to Latin Grammy-winning "Oye" (2006) was recorded in the band's hometown of Bogotá and mixed by Héctor Castillo (Brazilian Girls, Gustavo Cerati, David Bowie) in New York City. It is an impassioned socially conscious record with the group's signature organic rock sound.
