In the streets of Amsterdam he’s known as the “H.U.S.T.L.E.R”. Globally he’s known for his “Energyyy”.
Royston Williams aka Lyrical, born to Jamaican parents, started off his career as an MC in his hometown Bristol (UK), took over the underground Dutch dancehall/reggae scene and is now moving forward “To di World”.
At the age of 12, an obsession like habit, practising to freestyle to every beat he heard, became an occupation that would lead Royston to share the stage with some of the best UK, Dutch and Caribbean MC’s as well as headlining for Global Dancehall/Reggae legends.
Having spent most of 2010 in the studio working on his self titled debut album, “Royston Williams”, another page is about to turn in this entertainer’s career. Over the years Royston has truly evolved as an artist and entertainer moving beyond his capabilities as ‘Lyrical’ and transcending into his new role as ‘Royston Williams’. The anticipation of his debut album will be tempered with the release of his EP called #GRINDMODE, in early 2011, material which will confirm his stature in Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggae and Grime on an international level.
Having moved to the Netherlands over 10 years ago, his career in his current hometown, Amsterdam started when he was introduced to the infamous Amo-Lab crew, where he would make his integration into the European Hip Hop/Dancehall scene. In 2007 he revealed himself as a solo artist, after previously bringing out the mixtape “The 1st Confrontation” in 2006 with then Amo-Lab member Biggaman, rising a mix tape take over on the streets, with over 8000 copies sold in record time with the song “H.U.S.T.L.E.R” thumping out of every car system!
His first solo project “Lyricalism” in 2007 would feature the international club banger ‘Energyyy’, then, the stamp of Royston’s entertainment factor on stage. “Infiltration, The Saga continues”, would be Royston’s second project released in 2008. ‘Lyrically speaking’ featuring Kenyatta Fiya, American Reggae/Dancehall artist would be the cut where Royston would explore his deepest thoughts and feelings and share them through song, a projection of a hustler by a hustler.
In 2009, the mix tape “Differently” was released, featuring among others; Maikal X (NL), Rseenal (JA) and Killa P (UK). “Differently” expressed Royston’s versatility, a testament to his unique style. The single, ‘Tightest’ (Hott- Edd Riddim – US) has managed to gain great reviews locally and internationally. He would also leave his mark under the alias of ‘Lyrical’ on the Hott-Edd Riddim (US), the Skull Riddim (US), the Evolution Riddim (ES) and the Emotion Riddim (RU) as well as being featured on Winne’s album, “Winne zonder strijd”, a renowned Dutch Hip Hop artist.
In 2010, Royston has been creating a new definition for ‘entertainment’ with his new hit “Money Counter” featuring Maikal X. ‘The new Energyyy’, his fans claim, as the energy and diversity within this track will take you away. As one of the official singles of the EP #GRINDMODE, ‘Money Counter’ is set to be released on iTunes early 2011, along with “Subliminal”, another single of the upcoming EP.
