Agrikulture began in 2003 with Aditya Permana, Anton Wirjono, and Hogi Wirjono. They began their career doing remixes for popular Indonesian artists such as Slank, Indra Lesmana & Reborn, Naif, and Maliq n D'essentials. Their career was further solidified when they released a remix for The Safari's 'Disko di Rumah', which went on to be nominated for an AMI award, and persisted at the top ten of national radio charts.
Agrikulture moved on from the format of decks and effects to a 5-piece band,
with Irfandy as their vocalist, Aditya Permana on drums, Emil Pahlevi on guitars, Dipha Barus on bass and keys, and an additional percussionist and saxophone player Ade Koestomo. In July 2007, the band released their debut album, 'Dawai Damai', evoking a sense of life in the big city, with tracks like 'Gosip' describing celebrity culture and infotainment. The band also reinterpreted a song by one of their idols, Benyamin S, titled ' Kompor Meledug', a comedic reminder for communities to protect their environment in times of hardship.
The album featured collaborations with Tika, Indra Aziz, and Edo Wallad of The Safari.
Having built a reputation for their uniquely Indonesian electronic pop sound, the band went on to play alongside bands such as Beastie Boys, Franz Ferdinand, NERD, 2ManyDJs, Cut Copy, and The Rapture. The band was selected to represent Indonesia at festivals such as Good Vibrations in Singapore, Global Gathering, and Sunburst Music Festival in Malaysia.
Agrikulture is busy developing their second album, which features collaborations by Malaysian rapper Arabyrd, and Indonesian reggae musician Ras Muhammad. The album is due to be released in 2011.
