For Adaamick Mendoza , it's always been about the music. A platinum selling writer and performer Adaamick's unique blend of Latin, pop, and hip hop has been heard around the world, created a buzz in the music industry and after walking away from a lucrative recording contract in 2000, he has emerged with a new sound and the creative force behind some of today's superstars.
Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Adaamick has always been involved in music. "I remember being seven years old and changing the words to all of the top songs - I would sing along, but with my own lyrics." As Adaamick grew up, he put together several groups - including New Vision, Living Water, Life and S'tilo. At only 16 and on a way to a performance in Hawaii with New Vision, Adaamick first remembers hearing Bonnie Raitt's song "If I Can't Make You Love Me". "The way her song made me feel has stayed with me for all these years - that's the moment I realized how powerful a song could be."
After taking over the helm at A&M records in 2000, Ron Fair (Christina Aguilera, Black Eyed Peas) made certain that Adaamick and his group S'tilo were his first signing and moved them out to Los Angeles. Adaamick spent most of his time writing, including sessions with Shelly Pieken & Todd Chapman, which led to the song Three Words, which was included on the debut album of Australian Idol winner, Guy Sebastian, which has been, certified 6X platinum.
"The experience I gained through meeting people like Ron Fair, Jimmy Iovine and writing with top songwriters and producers was amazing and I thank Ron Fair for giving me the opportunity to work closely with him and learn from one of the most talented and what I like to call a genius music mind such as his - but I so wanted for my music to be heard that I had to move in a new direction as an artist."
Since then, Adaamick has split his time between writing and recording. He has written music with: Franne Golde (Dreaming of You by Selina), Matthew Gerrard (Edens Crush), Raymond Cham (Christina Aguillera), Chaka Blackmon (Edens Crush, Christina Aguillera), Andy Vargas (Santana Band), Mischke (Michael Jackson, B2K), Rob Bolt (JC Chavez) Robbie Nevil, Kenny Nolan (Lady Marmalade), Alex Cantrall (Wild Orchid), and Eric Foster White (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys).
How important is music to Adaamick? "The respect I've developed for music since that day and all the musical creations I've been blessed to create since that very day are the very foundation of my existence. I live for a song. I believe a song can change lives and I believe a song can change the world. Songs can bring hope, happiness, love, and also help to face reality. Songs can be that shoulder to cry on. Songs can be the one thing you need to lift your spirits. Music is life at its most intimate and most personal of settings."
