Abena’s passion for music was clear from the get go. This was so evidently expressed through her fierce involvement in all things musical. From church choirs to school shows and showcases, there was no doubt of her love for performance. At 16 she was privileged to be accepted into the Brit School for Performing Arts and Technology - an institution designed to bring out the best of UK talent. Some of the biggest recording labels, including Sony and EMI, are among its backers. Studying Musical Theatre for two years, She describes her time there as ‘challenging’ and a ‘great insight into the entertainment industry.’ Her time there confirmed her aspirations of pursuing a musical career. Her musical influences vary from Aretha Franklin to Mariah Carey to Eva Cassidy.
She has since worked with a number of amazing writers and producers in the US and UK. In the States, she recorded with producers including Lionel and Trevor Job, whose credits include Tyrese's Multi-Platinum selling album 'Sweet Lady.’ Back in the UK, she worked with various producers including Pete Hammond whose credits include Kylie Minoque and Alpha Beat as well as Andy Whitmore, whose credits include Booty Luv and Lemar. As a songwriter, Abena has been involved in various writing projects for Universal/Geffen.
Known for her friendly nature and infectious smile, you can only warm to her lovable personality. Add to that brains and beauty, she successfully completed a degree in Music and Media Management, a course she describes filled her with great knowledge of the music business.
