Female Fun Records was created in Oakland, Calif in 2000; nurtured in Arcata, Calif from 2001-2005; endured industry fall-out in New York City from 2005-2009 where it currently is regaining its balance and recreating its brand. The braintrust
of Peter Agoston and his legion of imaginary friends and employees are taking the
digital and parts of the physical music industry by siege in 2009.
A small music industry powerhouse, Agoston is a seasoned vet in the so called 'independent' music "scene". A longtime music journalist and observer of objective ethics, he went from teen wunderkind college-radio DJ (WUVT 90.7FM) and to record retail maven (Sandbox Automatic) in the early/mid 90's to rouge documentary film maker (Culturama) and steady-handed freelance union leader.
From weathering the road in tours of Japan, Europe, UK, Canada and the U.S. to re-establishing NYC music venue The Knitting Factory as the definitive club for
hip-hop in 2007-08.
In 2009, he brings back Female Fun Records, alongside sister-imprint, Cult 45 Records. For pairings of limited vinyl runs and fully serviced digital releases.
The latter housed and distributed by the Seed company (with some titles distributed by Alpha Pup Distribution), available in outlets such as iTunes, Amazon.com, eMusic, Beat Port, and numerous others.
2009 is the year Peter Agoston . starts putting out records again! Now, lift
every voice and sing!
