Sometime in the mid 90's four young Mozambicans left behind home and family in Maputo towards a new South Africa, post-apartheid and filled with hope. They settled in different parts of Johannesburg and each pursued a different university career. Already in the new millennium they met by pure coincidence, and with two things in common, Maputo and a passion for music, they decided to form a band to add color to their boring student lives. Half joking, they decided to sign up for a competition dedicated to amateur bands called Battle of the Bands, and unexpectedly they reached the finals. Despite not winning the competition, they still walked out enthusiastic and with a name: 340ml.
In the early days, inside a tiny pool room turned into a studio, they frantically sought after a different sound, something they could call their own. And eventually within the dyslexic fusion of Dub, Rock, Marrabenta, Bossa Nova and Ska 340ml found a formula they wanted people to listen to.
The rest went pretty fast. Various performances, albums, videos, traveling and touring. 2009 was a big year for the group. Besides being nominated for six different categories at the South African Music Awards (SAMA's), including album of the year and best group, they managed to win the award for best alternative album and best engineered album of that year. Sorry For The Delay, their second album, was considered one of the top albums of this decade by the South African media. Recently, with the intention of conquering new horizons, they signed a European agency and distribution deal. Right now, the band prepares itself for a European tour and a new album with several remixes of their work.
