Up until now, post-rock/metal has been something from far-off lands and filled with exotic names like Isis, Pelican, Across Tundra and Ocean. Now though, Australia has some beautiful and crushingly heavy cinematic metal of its own. With their three-track, 20-minute EP, Sydneys 1-2-Seppuku have nailed that apocalyptic aura that surrounds music like that of GY!BE, but with it come arrangements that have an uplifting feel as guitar layers build until the heavy air erupts in a distorted cacophony. Add to this a little Charles Bukowski, some tape gristle and deeply embedded percussion and this EP stands strong against its musical contemporaries. -- (RA) - Time Off (Bris)



If youre thinking of occupying the world of quiet/loud, youd better make damn sure that your 1-2-sucker punch is a knockout, or youll end up looking like a fool. In this place, bands like 1-2-Seppuku reign supreme because they understand that being hard-hitting means just that no holding back, giving it everything youve got. And in the lead up to that moment, youve gotta keep your target on edge, so even though theyre expecting your final blow, they have no idea how youre going to deliver it.



Thats what bands like 1-2-Seppuku thrive on rich, dynamic soundscapes that switch from steady to blistering with the greatest of ease, keeping the listener interested before blowing their fucking head off. Awesome stuff. -- Steph Edwardes, www.rockus.com.au



This one is a favourite from some metal guy's blog review of our showing at Metal for the Brain 2006 or 2007, I don't know. Good for him: "The opening band of the event 1-2-Seppuku, were a weird choice for the event, considering this was suppose to be a “metal” event. Here were practically a bunch of emo’s attempting to play experimental/progressive rock, sans the musical ability and talent. Besides looking very out of place, they did nothing for my ears, so I headed for the Sinister stage"
