The ZOMBI SQUAD call themselves underground, yet they are the most well known and oldest Hip Hop institution on the Dutch scene. The notorious ZOMBI SQUAD are amongst the original European mainland old school artists infected with Hip Hop rhythm and rhyme skills. Here in the Netherlands the ZOMBI SQUAD has maintained a number one following through nearly two decades. Beginning as the STREET BEAT BOXERS in 1983, the team showcased lyrical and musical genius that would destine them to become lifelong music artists.

By 1990 after undergoing a few line-up alterations the ZOMBI SQUADs presentation of their first promo single (for the Stichting Friesland Pop) they earned the crown of first place in the first Friesland Rap contest. At this time lead singer, Sherlock lived in Leeuwarden qualifying the group to win this crown and begin their era of professionalism in the north of Holland although the groups base was in the heart of Groningen. In 1991 their work on the first Dutch rap compilation CD, Exiles from da Neverlands truly garnished them with the spotlight. Exiles from da Neverland also showcased the talented Hip Hop culture artists Def Rhymz, Anonymous (from the POSTMEN) and the singer Romeo. By 1994 they had been selected to contribute within the compilation CDs Blockbuster (Nehtherlands) and Brainkilla (Germany). Sherlock next earned additional contracts and a broader following after working on an EP, Strazz with the Mendoza Dance Party and contributing to the beats and raucous roll of reggae-jazz-ska band Jah Mah Tah Mah amongst various performance oriented projects.

The strengthening German Hip Hop market bolstered the ZOMBI SQUADs EP Rough and Poetically via the label Vinyl Vendetta, Cologne. From this title number, the ZOMBI SQUAD created a video clip sending shockwaves through the underground European community. In Marseille, France they created the next hot clip Crazy Wild spinning heads and beats throughout an ever growing underground scene in Europe. In1998 their live in the studio incarnation, Zombi Sound Systems Vol.1 established a European respect for their years of dedication in the Hip Hop industry and providing audiences with dynamic smoking live shows.

Notwithstanding their electric Hip Hop performances, the genius of MADPAT, DJ FREEZ, ILL KID and Sherlock have contributed to R&B sounds, jazz and theatre performances broadening their creative range. Not only has DJ FREEZ rocked the house at command performances for (then) Prince Willem Alexander of the Netherlands and Prince Albert of Monaco on separate occasions sending them into contorted boogie gyrations; he courageously set out to break the worlds record of 74 consecutive hours playing records a grueling 72 hours in the quest. Sherlock also hosts the Battle of the Year break-dance competitions in throughout the Benelux and MADPAT often engineers the sound for such events. The ZOMBI SQUAD has performed throughout 10 European countries and in 2004 set lyrical bombastic fire on the main stage at the SPLASH Festival in Chemitz, Germany and they repeated the storm in the Chzech republic in 2005 at the HipHop Kemp mainstage. In 2006 the ZOMBI SQUAD released their long awaited CD, Appointment with the Underground, which energized the European scene and hopefully your own Hip Hop experience, wherever you are.
