Always pushing the limits to set themselves apart from the typical hardcore and metal scenes, In Ruin has been hard at work writing and collaborating with artists from every genre of music for their upcoming remix album entitled “Wreckage.” The CD is composed of 12 remixes of the songs from their previous album “This Is Not Our War” and features guest appearances from members of THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE, ex-CONFIDE, VICTORY IN NUMBERS, CENTURY, OH CONSTANTINE, and several others, as well as collaborations with local hip hop artists IS HE MISERY, JAY SINIFICANCE and THE SUBLIMINAL ORPHANS just to name a few. The band has also joined up with several DJ’s and producers including UK dubstep master CHRISPY, notorious for his work with countless artists including Rihanna, La Roux, and Suicide Silence; FLOW FIYA, a hip hop producer from Philadelphia who has recorded with rappers such as Black Thought of The Roots and Meek Millz; and basement DJ’s like ENIGMATA, RON SWERDON, and JP Florio formerly of the West Chester group ADDISON.
“It’s been awesome working with so many talented musicians from so many different genres,” says guitarist, keyboardist and producer Randy Slaugh. “Working with bands who have shared the stage with Fall Out Boy, rappers who have toured with Cypress Hill, and DJ’s who have collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon, it’s been a huge project and a lot of fun. Plus, we’ve made some new friends along the way and have also been able stretch into new directions we never thought was possible with our musical style.”
In Ruin draws their influences from groups like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Thrice, and August Burns Red, although you can barely hear it in their music. They have always tried to keep their style very heavy, using 7-string guitars and intense breakdowns, while incorporating elements of melody and catchiness in a way you don’t usually hear in metal. On “Wreckage,” the guitars and drums are much less prominent, but the band instead takes their music in a different direction, using layers of synth programming, samples and electronic beats to create their signature heavy yet melodic sound with a new twist. “Wreckage” is due out June 15th and will prove to be a more diverse and genre-defying work of art than anything the band has previously come up with. In Ruin has shown that musically, anything is possible, and they plan on taking things even further as their career unfolds.
