Hip-Hop has been responsible for putting the spotlight on many cities around the country and the “YOUNG SAPS” plan to make Akron, Ohio its next target. In a time where the youth of today are being influenced more and more by big rims, colorful diamonds, platinum chains, name brand clothes, luxury vehicles and a passion to make money, emerges three young hustlers from Ohio to become the new spokesmen and trend setters of the nation. Pulling up on 28’s (twenty-eights) is none other than the “YOUNG SAPS”

DALLAS DELATTE (YOUNG DAL aka “BABY”) (17), DAYLEN DELATTE (YOUNG BLACK aka “THE BUSINESSMAN”) (18) are two brothers and their closest friend DURRELL RICHERSON (YOUNG RELL aka “SUPERSTAR”) (18) all started belting out lyrics around the ages of 8 and 9 years old. The three young future stars were introduced to hip hop by DAYLEN and DALLAS’ older brother and now label mate DEMARLO DELATTE aka “D STREETZ”. As they grew older, so did their interest in the local rap game. “ For as long as I can remember STREETZ was always one of the hottest dudes in the city and our big brother, so we looked up to him. We would try to mimic his style and everything”. YOUNG DAL aka BABY explains.

YOUNG BLACK commonly called BLACK was born on the 17th day of February. YOUNG RELL or just RELL was born on the 23rd day of February. YOUNG DAL referred to by his crew as BABY, because he is the youngest of the three, was born on the 18th day of June. All three members were born and raised in Akron, Ohio on the lower Westside. This area is known as the “Valley” or the “V”. RELL reflects, “The V is where we all grew up and learned at a very early age just how crazy street life can get. From bad crack deals, to murder cases we been through it all, and not as spectators neither, we’re products of the streets. If we weren’t doing this rap thang, I don’t know where we would be real talk!” BLACK burst in, “Life ain’t sweet, me and my little brother grew up in and out of crack houses for real. When we weren’t there we were in and out of children homes or being shuffled to a family member’s house. So I take this rap situation very serious this is my career, this is my life. My dudes are out here right now going hard in the streets; some didn’t make it home, the streets got’em.”

In 2003, RELL and BLACK who were 14 years old and BABY who was thirteen years old at the time, formed a group called the “YOUNG SAPRANOS”. BABY, “We came up with the young part because we were the little dudes on the squad. Although we were young to our crew B.I.A”, (BET IT ALL) a very hot, well respected, local rap crew, “our affiliation made us bosses amongst our peers”. We were looked at as little bosses and we came up with YOUNG SAPRANOS as our name to express that”. BLACK, “our big homie asked,” “why we spelled sopranos with an A after the S and not an O?” “We said to be different”. “Later that day we had a show and our big homie introduced us by saying, SAPS get’em and we did. The crowd went crazy, and kept calling us, the SAPS. He started introducing us all the time as the SAPS or YOUNG SAPS, after a while it just stuck and we start calling our selves the YOUNG SAPS and putting it into our rhymes.”

The SAPS had very good stage presence early on which fostered exciting and energetic performances. Accompanying their live stage performance, were very hot lyrics with a twist of humor in their punch lines. This style would go on to be the young trio’s trade mark and calling card. D Streetz and RELL’S older brother Darshawn Richerson aka D Rich, of BIA, wasted no time getting the young new sound all over their town and surrounding cities. They were placed on mix cd’s and opened for national acts such as: Ying Yang Twins, Lil Wayne, Trina, Young Jezzy, Paul Wall, TI, Dro, Jim Jones, Busta Rymes and many more. The reception was enormous and the YOUNG SAPS were born.

The SAPS possess catchy lyrics, a crazy, energy-filled stage show and a fresh look that are driving marketing executives wild! Adding to this already impressive resume’ the young threesome has one more element that they are packing in their already explosive arsenal, the ability to produce. RELL, “I love to make beats because I can hear the melody in my head of how I want the song to go and then I’ll start to come up with the hook and lyrics before the track is even done. So we really create the beat and come up with the song all at the same time”. Under the production company BANG BROTHERS PRODUCTION INC. RELL, BLACK, and BABY, have managed to put together a string of hits for their debut album, from the smash hit single, “DO IT” which is takin’ over mix show radio to the club banger “MAKE IT RAIN”. The YOUNG SAPS are masters at creating that prefect song to ride to as displayed in the fire plug joint “whacha U rid’in on”.

In 2004, the YOUNG SAPS were sign to an independent label, SA MUSIC.

Shawn “SA” Anthony CEO of SA MUSIC signed the whole BIA crew consisting of Shawn C, D Streetz, and the YOUNG SAPS who he had known and been affiliated with for years. This would prove to be the key to opening up a new world for the young local stars. Although the label had other artists that were promoted and showcased, the SAPS, with their trade mark showmanship was the group that got spotted first. Leonard “LB” Brooks manager of the late Gerald Levert said “I’ve seen a lot of groups in my 16 years in the business and when I saw these young, flashy, exciting, little dudes, with the swagger of a person twice their age, I knew they were going to be a huge success”.

In September 2006 an entourage walked into the office of Eric Nicks who is SR. VP of A&R of Universal Record’s. It took Mr. Nicks only one double take, to hear and watch the YOUNG SAPS perform two verses of the first song of their 6 song demo CD, to tell CEO of SA MUSIC SHAWN ANTHONY, we’re doing a deal! SA MUSIC/UNIVERSAL RECORDS was made official in October of the same year.

The SAPS will remind you of cash money’s Hot Boys in their earlier years with their flashy jewelry and clever lyrics describing how they make money and how and what they spend it on. Once you think you have the “let’s get money” punch line rap crew figured out, they will switch gears and you may hear little reminders of “dip set” as they display their battle skills on their red hot mix CD’S. Each member carries different glimpses of artist that have come before them. RELL has a unique delivery which makes him a master at creating hooks. He slates Jay Z and Nas as two of his influences. BLACK, is quick to reference the late great Tupac and a newer generation MC, Young Buck as MC’S that help shape his craft. BABY agrees with both group members but will still select his older brother D Streetz as his biggest influence.

From east to west, north to south, if you live in the suburbs or the hood, if you like new rap or classical hip-hop, this trio is determined to win your support with either their street anthem “LET’S GET MONEY” or they will make the girls “WEAK” for them with the radio smash produced by KWAME. They may just win your hearts as they tell the story of street life and the pit falls that come with it in “GET AWAY” produced by PERION. While others will love the ARCHITECT THE JEWELER produced track “I DONT KNOW”.

No matter what song does it for you, there is no doubt that the “YOUNG SAPS” are definitely on course to becoming the “Young Bosses” Of The Industry.
