HOW IT ALL STARTED
Trap$tar Young Gutta, also known as Eric Johnson, was born on April 22, 1984 at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. His first home was in North Memphis in the neighborhood known as Klondike. From there he went to Klondike Elementary School. For middle school, he attended Humes Middle school, where he first started rappin’. Many people recognized his talent, so he continued to pursue music. He then attended Northside High School, where many Memphis rappers have first started, including Juicy J, Project Pat, Yo Gotti, Mac E, Charge Partnaz, & more.
Gutta then moved to Watkins and Brown, behind the Saint Courts Apartments, and was introduced to the dope game. “Me and my niggas was hungry for that paper on Garland St., so we had to hustle to eat,” he says. He then met Napalm, a rapper from Chicago, and Walter Ewing, a producer from Central High School. They called themselves Rock the Block Productions.
“From there, I left the hood and left the dope game alone for a second, and went out to Cordova and clicked up with an old homie, Jay Mullinz. He was like a brother to me, so we started rappin’ again in Cordova, and eventually got a little buzz, but things went bad so we split up”.
Gutta then went back to the dope game and caught his first dope charge at 18. He is now back to the rap game, and is now stronger than ever. Gutta then met Big Monroe, who eventually became one of his producers. “My mixtape The Prince of North Memphis was pushed back, but still be on the lookout for it, if you don’t grind, you don’t shine.”
