Artist Young Gage, was born Christopher Gage on September 1, 1985 in Baton Rouge, La. Being the youngest in his family, he is branded his stage namesake "Young Gage". In his earlier years, Gage and his family were quite mobile in residence. This granted him the opportunity of being exposed to the artistic elements of different cultural atmospheres and led him to an openly diverse outlook on life. Gage applies these essentials, along with his advanced skills in the visual and performing arts, to his creative approach in music.
Drawing inspiration from a vast range of music genres, Young Gage produces a sound that exceeds demographic barriers. Beyond witty punch lines and clever hooks, Gage brings substance and awareness to relevant issues in modern society. Relatable in his delivery, he adds a certain smoothness and refreshing sound oppose to the distinct rough-edged tracks of southern artists. Aside from his own projects, he is also involved in ghostwriting, song arrangement, as well as music production and composition. His authenticity provides an outlet from an industry oversaturated with gimmicks and imitators. Young Gage is an innovator.
Gage has made many public appearances throughout the southern region and has collaborated with other artists in projects. In summer of 2007, Young Gage was featured in Grip Magazine's "Bout 2 Blow" edition. An article recognized Gage as a rising artist and encouraged hip hop fans to follow his rising career. He has been ranked consistently in the top ten lists of Baton Rouge artists on Reverbnation.com for over three years. Gage has had the opportunity to collaborate with other Louisiana-based artists in some local projects. In July of 2008 he headlined the "Up Next" mix tape (presented by OneNine and mixed by local DJ PK1) alongside local artists Lil' Boosie, Kevin Gates, and Dee-1. Young Gage's extensive list of collaborations includes opening for such famed artists as Baby Boy (2006), Chingy (2007), and Cassidy (2008). In November that year, Gage was featured on artist P Floata's "Blackcan Land" mix tape. A month later he performed on World Wide Broadcast on XM Radio (hosted by DJ Stretch of Legion of Doom Record Breakers). A year later Young Gage collaborated in Mr. Cope (of the Atlanta area)'s "House of Repz" (January 2009); of which is currently featured on iTunes. More recently in January 2010 the "My Swag" mix tape presented by Social Network at www.myswag.com featured some of Gage's personal projects. Later that July he participated in a live freestyle performance with Deluge Band at Bethany World Prayer Center.
His solo projects consist of his compilation of mix tapes entitled "Social Outkast." This series comes from a more personal angle than of his other music compositions. Gage has dropped one volume each September since 2009. His first volume was a compilation of rough drafts dated from 2006 to 2008. The most recent set "Social Outkast Vol.2: Don't Kill the Messenger was released last September (2010). Both are available for download on www.datpiff.com. November 2010, Young Gage participated in a hip hop cypher sponsored by the Baton Rouge-based clothing line Dope. This cypher featured a number of local artists, one of which being artist Luke St. John. Gage is currently working on another mix tape entitled "Certified Lyrical" due to drop later this year. He's teamed up with Luke St. John to create a hit track, entitled "Listen Up" which will be featured on the forthcoming mix tape. Within the last month Gage participated in the Lyricist Lounge 2: An Art of Words & Sounds event (Baton Rouge, La) hosted by local promotion team Soul Demand. He was also recently featured in an interview on urbannewswarehouse.com where he spoke exclusively on his past and upcoming projects listeners should be anticipating within this year.
Young Gage has such an extensive musical portfolio. He has clearly made a mark in today's hip hop era. Refined in style, yet striking in his delivery, Gage is somewhat of a silent killer of those materialistic fads present in some of today's hip hop music. Humble indeed, this beaming underground artist is on a road to success.
