When asked about his songwriting and who; in this era, he admires- JayShawn said this, "I look up to songwriters like R. Kelly, Harold Lilly, Carvin Haggins, J. Moss, Missy Elliott, [pauses] Johnta Austin, Leshawn Daniels, and Eric Dawkins because they represent all the things that I respect in creating classic songs."

In addition to his songwriting, JayShawn has also served as Associate and Vocal Producer on many projects.
