SSex, drugs, alcohol, desire, envy, tyranny, love, hate, death, deceit, and, corruption are the raw truths of humanity; the rawest foundation of human existence. In comes YNEZ capturing the downward spiral of conflicts that heeds to be heard and dares to resonate. In essence creating a new rock category in Spanish with attitude, sensuality and one motto, "We make no apologies".
YNEZ was conceived on September 11, 2004 in Reseda, California by unapologetic front man Lazo Cienfuegos and Raudel Orozco’s, established song writing and aggressive guitar playing with one creative goal in mind; to infuse the American culture with their Latino roots. The year 2008 birthed new members to YNEZ. Jorge Herrera, his adrenaline rushing & aggressive drumming style, Jason "Kiké" Hogen’s energetic guitar playing style and Javier DeReal on bass —revolutionizing the music that defines YNEZ's rich sound.
The name YNEZ was born from the religious figure known as Saint Agnes of Rome or ‘Santa Inés’ in Spanish. The image appeared in one of Lazo's dreams, though not being religious himself; he found the name to be subtle yet strong. Through research, he came upon the punishment & suffering she had endured before she was beheaded and burned at the age of thirteen for being defiant against the church’s orders. Lazo later would change the spelling of the name to read as English but still pronounced in Spanish; without compromising the band’s intent. This would establish the concept for their logo and Lazo's form of “in your face” writing style & emotional singing. Dealing in sexual content, confrontations, politics and the debauchery of man instilled by greed —YNEZ endeavors to capture the core reality of man’s experience.
In the midst of 2008 YNEZ enters into Speed Semen Clove Factory Studios in Toluca Lake, California with producer and engineer Michael Rozon (Melvins, Adrenaline OD, Los Difuntos –Hellcat Label) to record their first EP titled Ex Nihilo, a Latin term which means, "out of nothing". Ex Nihilo a bold statement by the band, captures a small glimpse of what is to come from YNEZ's powerful and charismatic sound. Their formula of sexy melodies, warm-gentle harmonies and fierce-catchy choruses, makes YNEZ a liaison to both underground and commercial listeners, as well as allowing them to crossover language barriers without diffusing their music’s integrity.
YNEZ's love for live performances and aggressive stage presence landed them on the Jim Beam Black Label Tour through the inner city of Los Angeles; CA. YNEZ has performed at exclusive Hollywood venues such as The Whisky A Go Go, The Viper Room, The Troubadour, House of Blues, El Rey Theater, The Majestic Theater, Coachella and King King Theatre including headlining their own tour in Tijuana, Baja California, at such venues as Tarros y Jarras and Sambucas. They opened for headliner bands such as Montenegro, Javier Batiz, LIK (Sony®), Cubiky, Mezklah, Horny Toad, Viva Mapache, pop rock sensation INBOX formally IN::NOVA of Guadalajara, and The Hollywood Roses.
