In December of 2001 Withstand founding members Todd Brown and Mike Genett began the process of writing and the musician search. By January of 2002 Trevor Hill took his place at the drums and Randy Phelps was behind the bass. Quickly the four got to work on writing and the first release titled "Brookshire Freeway" was wrapped up by april of 2002. With the new music, Withstand made a name for themselves playing across North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia throughout the summer. By late 2002 Trevor Hill and Withstand had parted ways and Withstand continued on with a temporary replacement. By early 2003 a permanent replacement, Mike Pressley took his place in the band. Writing once again continued along with shows acoss the south. Withstand's style began to take on a new and more heavier approach then their previous release. Along with the new style also came shows with more heavier bands and the attention of new fans and friends. In 2004 Withstand began recording for their second release titled "Nothing" which was later released in August of 2004. To support the new music Withstand launched a concert series named "Technonomicon" which brought together bands from different styles of rock at different locations throughout North Carolina. A total of seven Technonomicons took place from January to December. In 2005 the series continued with the first show coming at Winthrop University with Roadrunner Record's Trivium headlining the show. The guys also played many road shows including sharing the stage with Chris Daughtry. By the end of 2005 Withstand had performed in 24 cities in over 50 different venues. In early 2006 Withstand performed shows on a limited basis while writing new material for their third release. "The Righteous Path Of Destruction" was released in the fall of 2007 once again under the Zen Wang Bingo label. In early 2008 the matured Withstand had once again taken a new direction and set out playing cover shows featuring many of todays top rock artists as well as many favorites of the past. The band continued to play select original events to support The Righteous Path Of Destruction release. In December of 2008 bass player Randy Phelps parted ways with the band to move to his home state of Iowa. Levin Shackelford settled in as the new bass player for Withstand as the guys continued to rock, being nominated for "Best Rock Band" at the 2009 Queen City Music Awards. On July 18, 2010 vocalist Todd Brown received the award of "Best Male Vocalist In Rock" at the 2010 Carolina Music Awards. The band is busy writing new material for a 4th release. Look for new Withstand dates for both original and cover events.
