After being raised in a Christian home with years of music lessons from their father, 3 brothers from Maryland started a rock band in 2006. Touring simply under their last name, Willet , the band had big dreams of radio singles, record deals, and national tours. On the other side of the world, over 12,000 people were dying from HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, as well as over 26,000 people dying from hunger and malnutrition.
Everyday.
In 2007, Jeremy, Justin, and Jordan Willet went to visit this side of the world. 10 days in Ethiopia, Africa would prove to be life-changing. All of a sudden, radio singles and record deals took a back seat to finding a way to help thousands of children living in poverty. The next 5 years would consist of heavy U.S. and international touring to speak on behalf of children that couldn't speak for themselves. During that time, the band recorded and released 5 studio albums, sold over 20,000 records, won independent music awards, and landed several independent #1 radio singles. In addition to releasing all five albums worldwide, the band has delivered worship songs for congregational use in North America through CCLI.
Although many considered the band, "successful", these achievements took second place to the work being done to see over 2,000 children sponsored through events, and many international trips into the communities that were being impacted. In addition, Jeremy and his wife, Kathleen, lived in Haiti for a year (2009-2010) where Kathleen served as a community development facilitator during the January 2010 7.0 earthquake.
At the end of 2010, the band finalized a project that took over 3-years to develop and decided to invest the profit made from CD sales, tour dates, and merchandise sales into a new non-profit they started called The Hunger Strike. The Hunger Strike became an official partner of Food for the Hungry, staying true to the vision to respond to God's call "until physical and spiritual hungers are ended worldwide". Willet as a band continues to tour the world, but now has office space located in Westminster, MD for Hunger Strike staff.
