Lace & Strange

WHITE LACE and STRANGE,(WLS), formerly known as The Nameless, broke through the local Miami, Florida rock scene in just two short years. Their creative mix of rock with punk, grunge, and pop, gives them a unique sound. Although their music has undertones of Nirvana, U2 and Green Day, WHITE LACE and STRANGE appeals to audiences from different music genres and ages and has developed an extensive local fan base in spite of the heavy Latin music scene in the area.

The band is currently in the process of finishing their first EP under their new name, White Lace and Strange (WLS) and the EP is scheduled for release early May 2008. A two-week promotional tour throughout New York’s major cities is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2008.

WHITE LACE and STRANGE has written and composed over 30 original songs; have had over 80 performances, both public and private. The band is comprised of three self-taught Miami-born musicians:

- Manny Garcia, (20) lead guitar, vocalist, and songwriter;

- Josh Rodriguez, (18) bassist/vocalist,

- Steven Cao, (20) drummer-/vocalist.

All three young men began playing instruments at a young age. Garcia would always play on his mother’s piano as young child. Later on in middle school, he learned to play the Alto Saxophone for the jazz band, however his passion for the guitar began while in high school at age 17. Rodriguez started playing guitar at age 10; He picked up the trombone at the age of 11 while in middle school, but the bass became his true love at around the age of 12. Cao, comes from a family of musicians and would play the bongos as a young child. His interest in team music began in middle school when he learned to play the baritone and the trumpet. As a freshman in high school, he joined his school’s marching band as a trumpet, trombone, and tuba player. However, once he sat down at a set of drums during the summer of his sophomore year, he never stopped playing. Their passion for their instrument brought them together the band was formed.

Josh Rodriguez joined the band in February 2007 when he replaced a previous bassist. and ever since then. The three have composed and recorded the majority of their songs.

Starting out as a garage band in September 2005, the band, then known as The Nameless, quickly secured its spot in the Miami rock scene when they won Second Place in the 2006 Ferguson High Battle of the Bands. Performing their first, ever public performance, and competing against ten other bands, they brought down the house as they rocked the 1,500-seat Ferguson auditorium. Consequently, in March 2006 the Spinal Bifida Foundation invited The Nameless to perform at their fund-raising event. “We gladly agreed,” said Garcia. “We believe we should show our gratitude and give back to our community,” he said. Ferguson High also invited them to close the 2007 Ferguson Battle of the Band show.

In March 2007, The Florida Marlins hired the band to perform the sound check at Dolphin Stadium for The Florida Marlin’s Baseball Super Saturday concerts. Tobacco Road, the infamous and oldest bar in Miami, has seen repeated performances, as has Churchill’s Pub. Other venues have been Flavor in Coconut Grove; the I/O Lounge; and Florida International University.

Four burnt amplifiers, three broken electric guitars, three bassists later, and the name change from The Nameless to WHITE LACE and STRANGE, the band is stronger than ever. A New York tour is in the works for summer, 2008 to promote their soon-to-be-released EP around major New York cities.
