AKA born: Eric Breed

Born in Flint, MI

Years Active: 15

Genres: Rap

Styles: Universal

One of the first rappers to come out the Midwest in the early '90s, MC Breed experienced starts of success while based in Flint, MI, before leaving the Midwest to work with the D.O.C. in L.A. and Too $hort in Atlanta. Breed's debut album, MC Breed & DFC, was released on the independent label Ichiban Records. The album merged the East and West Coast sounds of the time, being both lyrical and funky; it also spawned a successful single, "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'," which was later sampled for Ice Cube's "Wicked," kept the album on Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop chart for a whopping 52 weeks. Following his initial success, unprecedented at the time for a Midwestern rap act, Breed, began working with D.O.C., who helped write and produce some of the songs on Breed's upcoming albums.

By this point, the Flint native had left the Midwest behind and was networking on all coasts. In 1993, Breeds friendship with Tupac Shakur, created the hit, Gotta Get Mine, which went Gold instantly, peaked six on BB charts. His efforts continued to prove successful when his fourth album, Funkafied, peaked at number nine on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop chart in summer 1994, many of the songs featuring Too $hort and Jazze Pha, whom Breed became close with when he re-located to Atlanta. He remained prolific as an underground rapper, releasing generally an album a year and aligning himself with many of todays hottest artists. Gotta Get Mine appears on Enimens 8Mile Soundtrack.

In 2001, Breed returned to his roots, F.L.I.N.T., in producing, The Fharmicist, released regionally. He came out as no amateur in this game. The single, Lets go to the club, phat beat was created by one of the hip-hops hottest producers, Jazze Pha. The Midwest took a hold of Lets go to the club, and created a brand new generation of fans. Its been in constant rotation on Clear Channel & Radio One stations alike throughout the Detroit area.

Since his debut in 1991, Breed has produced 15 albums, the movie, Dollar, released in Blockbuster chains nationally and a best of Breed music video. His crucial ingredient to staying on top is proven to be, never forgetting where you came from. In 2006, MC Breed continues to rock stages from California to Michigan, bringing in the New Year, in his hometown with a thousand of his closest fans. Hes completing a Where is MC Breed DVD and new music soundtrack. Breeds music is hip-hop classic and is continuously played throughout radio airwaves, nightclubs, concerts, on soundtracks and sampled in todays commercials.
