Biography

Weszt (pronounced "west") is a heart-on-the-sleeve, thinking person's rock band from the tropical, commercial sprawl of Orlando, Florida, USA. Relevant and challenging, they skate the tattered edge of modern rock with meaning and catchiness, flaunting daring lyrics, infectious melodies, and passionate performances that remind us that screaming, whining, and ego trips are poor substitutes for emotion. Often compared to the urgency and intensity of early +live+, Weszt cites Achtung, Baby era U2, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin as their major influences, and their live show reflects the energy and verve of all their great loves.

The quartets lead singer is their namesake: a difficult, moody, and, perhaps, mentally unstable guitarist/songwriter, who formed the band around his indie label debut, Darkness Shines, in the fall of 2002. Despite a successful release and seven tours, Weszt left the label in May 2004 and the band evolved into a mature and more self-aware group that debuted in April 2005 at the famous Hard Rock Live to an audience of hundreds.

Having cut their musical teeth with legendary indie producer, James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Under Oath, Further Seems Forever), Weszts collective appetites were wet with greater indie success. They entered Wisners studio in April 2006 to begin tracking their most impressive work to date: a five-song rock manifesto entitled morningafterlife. Potent but less glossy than Darkness Shines, morningafterlife teeters on epic, slipping patient, contemplative yet enraptured verses between thunderous choruses and incredible musical moments. The underlying theme of the CD Weszt calls the existence resistance - a determination to not accept that where we are is where we should be. The CD was released in August 2006 and will be followed by an East Coast tour in October of the same year.

Since taking back the full-reigns of their careers, the band has been filmed for specials for the Discover Channel and TBS; been featured on the Hooters Calendar web site; shared the stage with 80s chart-toppers, The Fixx; performed for 12,000 people at the Bradenton Blast 2006; asked to open for Hootie and The Blowfish and Better Than Ezra; and invited to perform in New York City by the Xs, featuring Brett Scallions, former lead singer of multi-platinum selling band, Fuel. Weszt is determined, talented, and willing to do whatever it takes to bring their special brand of thinking persons rock to the world.
