Radio-Canada (CBC) Revelation of the year 2009/2010, Babel Med Music Award in France and Nominee for the Canadian Folk Music Awards and Gala Soba in the World Solo Artist of the Year category. Born and raised in Haiti, world music artist Wesli comes up as a strong player in this new generation of artists. Multi talented
singer, guitar player, percussionist, producer and arranger, he is described as Montreal's revelation. Founding hope through his devotion to music, having grown up in a poor and violent ghetto of Haiti, he is
inspiring a better future for younger generations. His debut album "Kouraj" is a powerful testimony including songs such as "Ghetto", "La vi drl" and the title song "Kouraj", in which he exposes the struggle
of the every day life, the actual situation in Haiti (extreme poverty, kidnappings, environment…) and the importance of reaching for higher grounds. The majority of the songs are sung in a brilliant Creole and
French with one English cut "Na w yo", that speaks out about the forgotten people of Africa in its past exploitations and conflicts and the actual and constant race for basic life conditions and equalities.
As for all of true world music and reggae fans, the message is universal and shouldn't be limited by language. Taking his inspiration from legends such as Bob Marley and Fela Kuti, Wesli's sound is a well
orchestrated mix of reggae, afro-beat and roots music that bring forth the same clear message of truth, peace and justice. Upbeat afro-groove songs such as "Sa yo f" and "Ng Makaya" speak out about environmental issues and corruption, while bringing us back to the musical quality that used to be found in the early seventies, but with a good modern twist. African instruments (Cora, Balaphone, Calabash, Talking drum), Haitian drums (Manman tambou, Segon, Kata) and great guitar and sax solos add up to make the whole very elaborate.
