Virginia Fudge - weep to shine

When you hear Virginia Fudge's unmistakable and naturally flowing voice, singing the words she has so honestly written, you bare witness to a translator of raw feelings. One cannot help but be captured by her eloquent, yet simple meshing of words, music, and soul.

Virginia (or Ginnie, as she's known by friends) had an early start in music. She had a helping hand from her father, MUSICNL member and recording artist Glen Fudge. Growing up in Lewisporte, Newfoundland, Virginia and her younger brother Matthew Fudge were born with the gift of musical talent. Growing up, Matthew focused on learning the guitar and drums, while she leaned more towards piano and vocals, dabbling in guitar as well.

Virginia become a teacher like her father before her. Naturally ambitious, when Virginia accepted a job as a music teacher at a small school in Norris Arm, she chose to begin a concert band program. After a passionate letter of concern, in 2004 she received a CARAS Juno award of $10,000 for her rural community school. This concert band program is now flourishing after three years of increasing interest and enthusiasm.

In April of last year Virginia recieved a MUSICNL grant to record her album. She took a leave from her teaching job and moved to St Johns to substitute teach and record her full length album, which was engineered by Steve Miller (Artist Development Recording Studios), mixed by Justin Merdsoy and mastered by Joah Caravahlo. Her Debut album "weep to shine" is available now, online through Fred's Records.

Virginia's band includes her brother Matthew who plays guitar (but also drums on her album) drummer Devon Milley (Kill Popoff/Missed By The Good) and Brad Morgan on bass (who plays with too many sweet bands to mention!) They enjoy playing the downtown bar scene in St John's, but their most prominent show to date was their showcase at Newfoundland and Labrador's Music Industry Association Awards conference in Grand Falls, NL, during October of 2005.

Virginia's music has been well received, by people of all ages. Her music is naturally sweet, yet wayward feelingKevin Kelly of the Newfoundland Herald describes it as "dreamy atmospheric pop".check it out for yourself!
