We Are Masked are an ambitious group crafting melodic progressive rock, tuned for the mainstream ear. Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, the band has been turning heads with their powerful hooks, thought-provoking lyrics and impressive musicality. With their new EP, Ambition Through the Chrysalis, We Are Masked aims to satisfy their yearning for musical growth, as well as conquer the local and regional music scene with non-stop live performances.
The three members of We Are Masked- Cameron Fitzpatrick (vocals, bass); James Abbott (guitar), and Vincent Russell (drums)- met as adolescents and quickly discovered they shared the same interest and passion for music. Though pulling inspiration from many different musical styles and artists, the group cites bands such as Fair to Midland, Coheed & Cambria and Rush as their main influences.
“We take pride in our unique sound. Although we are influenced by several well-known and recognizable bands, we work hard to craft a style that fits us. Because we aren't another cookie-cutter band, people aren't always receptive at first. It can be hard work,” says Fitzpatrick. However, hard work is an ethic We Are Masked embrace, and it shines through at their concerts.
“Playing live is a real joy for us,” explains Russell. “We strive to create a unique performance for the listener where the focus is not on one member or one song, but on our art. We deliver the music in its most raw and beautiful form, and we love feeling the audience's energy and joy."
For their new release, the band enlisted the aid of producer Mike Major (At The Drive-in, Sparta, Coheed & Cambria). Major helped perfect the songs on the EP and gave an overwhelmingly positive response to them. “It was a blast working with a talented, creative, and well-prepared band. The EP is a great representation of what this band is all about. Expect big things from these guys in the future!” says Major.
The new EP is a tight blend of heartfelt progressive hard rock that is musically demanding, but leaves the door wide open for fans of mainstream music.
Abbott declares, “We stress that we are not obsessed with the technicality of our pieces. We always strive to write in a way that feels right; we go where the song wants to go, whether that means a particularly challenging section, or one that isn’t at all. It's about what sounds good.”
Armed with a well-defined sound and a professional approach to the industry, We Are Masked are ready for whatever the future may hold.
