If a duo of twenty-year-old hip hop artists were ever to be described as 'veterans', 'Waste Management' would be that duo. Fresh outta Lincoln Park, Michigan, Pig Pen (Phil Desharnais) supplies the production, while JRN (Jake Newby) lays down the vocals. Since 2005, the group has released a mixtape, two albums, and performed at countless shows all over the Detroit area, both suburban and metro. The two were even kicked out of their high school for controversial lyrics in 2006.



Known for both his quality AND quantity of beats, Pig Pen has appeared on DetroitRap.com for his impressive beat tapes and has supplied the heat to many different artists in the Detroit area over the past couple of years, including 'Abstrakt Intellekt' and 'Aztek the Barfly'. Noted for his fiery stage presence, JRN has collaborated with numerous artists including 'Foulmouth' and 'PHD' of 'Da Bash Brotherz', as well as focusing on upcoming bodies of work lyrically, for Waste Management.



It's much too difficult to sum up their sound as one particular genre or type of hip hop, as their tracks range from punch line-laced bangers to eerie ominous-sounding stories to catchy laid-back jams, so you can be the judge of that. After achieving mild local success and recognition from the 'My Town' album in 2007, the group had a relatively quiet 2008. But Waste Management is looking for big things from the summer of '09, as they gear up to release the long-awaited 'Keep On' album and continue to do just that, keep on through the ranks of hip hop music, from Michigan and beyond.
