VUUR IS DEAD.

On june 24th 2008 we decided to split up. We have been around for 9 years. It's been good, but been there and done that. It's time for new horizons. But it's been good. We still more or less finished 3 songs, but we never recorded them.

We still have a few copies of most releases. Send a mail to stefvuur@gmail.com for more details.

Some of us are involved in new bands/projects. It does not stop.

Thanks for the support.

***BAND HISTORY***

VUUR started in 1999, with ex-members of Outrage, Deconsume, Reller and Hopeman Path. If we remember well, the original idea to start a band appeared at a DropDead show in Deurne. Most of us were there, all of us had been in bands before, some of us had been in the same bands.

Originally, Vuur started out as a five-piece with two vocalists: Yannick and Koen. After playing just a few shows, Koen had to set his priorities at home. The band continued as a four-piece with Yannick on the microphone.

After releasing a scrappy rehearsal-tape recorded on an old tapedeck (you can still get copies from this demo if you are lucky) and playing a bunch of shows, we managed to get into a decent studio during the winter of 2001. We recorded four songs. Three of these songs appeared on the split-7” with legendary DIY political hardcorepunkband Seein’Red (hol), which was just a great experience for us. Our bassplayer Nico released this 7” himself with a pressing of 2000 copies on his label Day One Records. You can still easily find copies of this 7" here and there. The fourth song appeared on the 'Decide ' benefit-LP on Mountain CIA Records from New York (usa). We are slow at making new songs. After releasing the split-7” with Seein’Red, we played a bunch of shows and it took us a long while to get into the studio again.

And so we did during the spring of 2003. We recorded six more songs, of which most were meant for a split-release with Inertie (fra), the great new band of Christophe Mora from Stonehenge Records (another legendary and true DIY label). Shortly before the release of this record, Inertie sadly split up. Therefore we decided not to go ahead with doing that record. Finally, two songs of this second recording session ended up on the split-7” with Amen Ra from Belgium. This 7” was released by Vincent from Amen Ra, had a pressing of only 500 copies and came in three different covers. By the way: in 2007 we made some new covers for the last 50 copies of this 7", since the original covers were all gone.

Three more songs from the same session were released on the 4-way-split-CD with Amen Ra (bel), Gantz (fra) and Gameness (fra). The CD was a co-release of 3 labels: Heart On Fire Records, Impure Muzik and Recap Records. The sixth song was a cover of a Born Against-song. It was originally recorded to appear on a Born Against-tribute-LP. This LP did not get released. Later on, it was intended for a compilation-7” on Ape Must Not Kill Ape Records from Switzerland. This piece of vinyl is not out yet, as we write this.

In May 2005, our singer Yannick surprised himself and the rest of the band with the message he got from his doctor: no more singing, no more screaming. That was it. For a moment or even for a while, the band was dead. We had to figure stuff out. And so we did. We still wanted to continue this project and the things the band stands for. Finding a new vocalist to grasp what the band is about kind of scared us a bit. However, someone came up with the idea of asking Koen again. He quit playing in the band several years before. Koen agreed. It was no longer the same band but in some way it was the same band again. But we lost Yannick.

Through Shove Records (ita) and Acclaim Records (jap) we got the fantastic offer to release all our recordings thus far on one CD. Most of these recordings only appeared on vinyl. This discography-CD, called 'Vuurviolence', documents the recordings we did with Yannick on vocals. It documents a period in our lives as individuals and in the history of the band. This CD appeared in july 2007 and is available now.

In 2006 we decided not to do a VUUR-full-7", but replace it by a split-12" with Grinding Halt (Holland). This was talked about and decided after we played a show with Grinding Halt at the famous ACU in Utrecht (hol). Grinding Halt recorded their side of the 12" in november 2006. VUUR recorded in may 2007, the slow bastards we are. This 12" was finally released in november 2007.

Our last release was the contribution of a studio-recorded and previously unreleased song ('Black Idea') to the upcoming Belgian compilation-7" titled 'Belgium's Burning'. This 7" was released in december 2007 by Deviant Gedrag Records and collects 9 hardcorepunk bands, all from Belgium: Sunpower, Vuur, Shredder, Ravaged, Tod Pole, Furious, Reproach, Vogue, A Den Of Robbers and Damaged Goods.

On june 24th 2008 we decided to split up.

***BAND POLICY***

VUUR has always disliked the slick business mentality that has entered punk/hardcore. Take a good look around you. We always preferred a true DIY(Do It Yourself)-approach over being a part of that forcefed hollow money-making fashionculture machine. Culture is ours, not theirs. Take it back. F-u-c-k the music-industry.

Stop copying the music-industry with their money-grabbing tactics and with their crappy punk-is-cool-bands. The hypes they use feed their happiness but it also fuels our anger.

We were never cool enough for most people. But we are still pissed. Feel free to get in touch with us if you want to know more or if you want to discuss this.

Start your own band, label, zine - organize your own gigs, workshops, actions, whatever. It is important that you do - keep things into your own hands. We don't care about how how professional your recordings sound, or how you look. Keep us informed about what you are doing. Support your local scene. Keep it DIY. We need you to kick ass. Don't let the bastards get you.
