In an unprecedented joint venture agreement, sports and entertainment Promoter Butch Lewis scored a real knockout by signing with fabled hitmaker, LA. Reid, Chairman of Def Jam for his own independent record label Voicez. Lewis has been the man behind the success of many of the most celebrated names in boxing for over three decades. He is now bringing his magic to the music business. Voicez is an artist friendly, marketing driven label nurturing new musical talent for super stardom while simultaneously developing Voicez as a brand. His partnership with Def Jam gives him the muscle he needs to do it. It also provides versatility for cross promotions and product tie ins.



Lewis is one of the newest members of the entertainment powerhouse at Universal Music Group, he is looking forward to collaborating with good friends hit-maker Antonio L.A. Reid, and hip hop icon and Def Jam President Jay-Z.



Antonio LA Reid, the former President of Arista and one of the industrys most successful hit-makers, joined Universal in February 2004, as the CEO of Island Def Jam Music Group, a subsidiary. Prior to the Def Jam position, Reid had been responsible for the phenomenal success of artists like OutKast, Avril Lavigne and Usher as well as many others. He scored a major coup for the company when in January 2005, he brought in Grammy Award winning superstar Jay Z to be the President of Def Jam Recordings.



At that time, Lewis, a good friend and business associate of Jay-Z, had been negotiating a deal for an independent record label with another industry conglomerate, but his relationship with Jay-Z and LA Reid convinced him his goals would be better served by signing with Island Def Jam; it became official in March 2005.



Lewis flamboyant success in sports coupled with his in your face attitude has earned him props in the hip hop community. As Chairman of Voicez, Lewis is planning for his label to be a voice for all genres of popular music, but primarily hip hop and R&B. So far the new label has signed several promising young artists.



The business of running a record label is a family affair. Voicez A & R man is Lewis youngest son, Brandon a graduate of Morehouse College and recently with the Blackground label and Roy Jones Body Head Entertainment label. His daughter, Sita Lewis a graduate of Georgetown University, is a former senior producer for BET as well as King World. She heads up the entertainment arm of Butch Lewis Entertainment and is a Senior VP of Voicez.
