This is my third release, and my prayer, my true one hope, is that this cd *means* something to you. That's honestly all I really care about. I've been doing this for long enough now to realize that making money making music will not bring peace or joy. Responding to God's call on our lives, however difficult the process may be, is what brings joy. And I believe music is my calling. Like for some people maybe surfing is a calling, but they get out in the waves at 5am because they have to be in the office at 8. Or maybe the way for some teaching children at church on Sundays is a calling. Or for some it's tending the seeds in the garden and nurturing them into a glorious display of God's creativity. It's the voice we all hear that says, "This is what I made you for," and instead of worrying about how it makes any sense, you just do it. And it is only without the worry that you find any peace.
So without trying to sound too pithy, or wise (cuz Lord knows I'm so far from any true wisdom, especially since I still think I'm so smart) this cd is the first one I've truly laid down at the feet of my Creator and said, "Whatever you wanna do with it, God. I give up trying to figure it out." I've entitled this one "Eternal Things" because that's what I've been predominately concerned with for the last few years, and I've never felt more right with the world. Even though I know the world may not like it or understand it. Funny how that works?

Vanessa loves to sing. Her parents tell her of her first years in Texas when she would hum tunes long before she learned to talk. She’s been a Southern California girl since she was 12, and though she has been a classically trained actress, a secondary education teacher, and even a car salesperson for a brief stint, Vanessa has always returned to her first love and greatest gift: Singing.
And now this singer/songwriter’s eclectic style and spirited performances have been drawing crowds to Southern California venues since her debut album of original songs entitled “Give Me a Stage” was independently released in April of 2002. The song “Mourning Blue” was given an honorable mention in the internationally recognized 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Her sophomore effort, “Wanderlust”, has garnered big praise and big sales since it’s release in August 2004, and demonstrates the promise of a talented independent artist who puts all her heart, mind, and soul into her music. The song “Stop Crying to Me” took her all the way to the final round of the Talent Search TV competition at Opry Mills in Nashville, and the album earned her a nomination for “Best Female” at the Inland Empire Music Awards. Her third cd, "Eternal Things", was released independently in December of 2007, and she has currently completed an EP album of 5 songs entitled, "Beloved, Volume 1", which was completed in June of 2010.
The sound is dynamic, passionate, and real – much like the artist herself. Vanessa creates folk-tinged pop with soaring vocals, and is praised most often for the depth of her lyrics and the strength of her voice. She borrows from many styles to create a sound that is uniquely her own – always open to experimentation, yet always honest. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly “who she sounds like”, and she considers this to be one of her greatest assets. Vanessa’s ultimate hope is that she can create and perform songs that touch people's hearts and reveal truth about God.
