Val Xalino and his whole family is involved in the history of traditional acustic music from Cape Verde. Many of them entertained the inhabitantes of Mindelo with serenatas but also the Governor of Portugal. The musicians where especielly invited to his resident in Mindelo for entertainment and the musicians gave the expression noite Caboverdiana a meaning. Eduardo Jon Xalino was one of the invited to the resident palácio but the thing that he is most famous for is his cooperation with Humbertona. They made the instrumental master piece Sodade together and wrote an important chapter in Cape Verdean music history. Eduardo Jon Xalino also recorded songs together with Tazinho and they made several albums together. Even the female part of the family was involved in the music. For example Djuta who had a great success in Portugal and Africa with Eddy Moreno in the fifties. She was and still is a great guitar player and an exellent singer. One of their greatest songs is called Grandeza. Val Xalino himself learned fast in his early years how to handle a guitar and he and his late cousin Djô Diloy were soon allowed to join the family when they where performing.
