VALLEJO RECORDS NEW SONG “EL CAMPO” WITH TEJANO LEGEND, FLACO JIMENEZ

Austin band Vallejo has completed recording a brand new song for an upcoming release with one of the group’s musical idols and Grammy Award winning Tejano legend, Flaco Jimenez. The result is a Tex-Mex flavored ode to the Vallejo brothers’ childhood hometown called “El Campo” that sonically paints a tribute to the town’s hard working roots and the boys’ early memories of family, friends, good times and the music they grew up around.

Reflects singer A.J. Vallejo, “Our father’s Uncle Joe had a Tejano music hall in El Campo called The Pan American Ballroom and he booked a lot of Mexican artists like Little Joe Y La Familia, Freddy Fender, Selena Y Los Dinos, Johnny Rodriguez and of course Flaco. We were usually the little kids running around in the back kitchen since the whole family helped Uncle Joe when big concerts came to town. We always loved Flaco and the way he shredded away on the accordion. It was infectious and immediately turned any song into a Texican throw down.”

Last month, the Vallejo brother’s reached out to Jimenez in San Antonio and asked him to join them in their studio in Austin, Texas. The Tejano legend gladly obliged and within a short road trip to Austin and a hard day’s work, the song “El Campo” was born.

Adds drummer Alejandro, “I think it became a better song not only because we had Flaco in the mix, but because we knew we had to deliver something really special that would pay respect to our family’s roots and the people of El Campo. We just hope that they’re as proud of the song as we are.”

REVIEWS
“Vallejo melds a funky hard rock millennium style, with swiveling Latino rhythms and superfuzzy guitars. Vocals are surly and sleazy, adding a little dirt to the nearly pristine studio professionalism. There's no point in listening to this if you're not gonna turn it up to ten and free your hands for lots of air guitar/drumming flail.”
- David Fricke, ROLLING STONE.COM

“Thicker Than Water is the most consistent album of the band’s career and knowing just how hard Vallejo can work a good thing, 2008 looks to be a great year for the fresh-faced veterans.”
- Michael Corcoran, AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN

“One of the louder bands on the Texas Latin rock scene, Vallejo brings two drummers, twin guitars and suggestive polyrhythms to an attack that would crumble the walls of Jericho.”
- William Michael Smith, HOUSTON PRESS

"Thicker Than Water boils down to Vallejo’s crowning achievement thus far. Thicker Than Water…and bloody well righteous.”
- Raoul Hernandez, AUSTIN CHRONICLE

MORE ABOUT VALLEJO:
A melting pot of infectious swaggering rock laced with Latin percussion and fiery live performances has made VALLEJO one of the most popular bands to hail from Austin, Texas.

Raised in the small town of El Campo, Texas on their parent’s LP collection of Tito Puente, Santana & Tijuana Brass, VALLEJO was first formed by the three Vallejo brothers A.J. (Vocals, Guitar), Alejandro (Drums), and Omar (Bass). Learning music by playing trumpet in the high school marching band and jamming to friend’s mixtapes of classic rock and funk, the brothers eventually migrated to picking up the guitar, bass and drums to create something that was instantly recognizable on the airwaves as their own.

Since then, VALLEJO has racked up fans one by one with thousands of high energy shows and a growing catalog of album releases including Sins (Chapel Lane), Shining Sun, Beautiful Life (TVT Records), Into the New (Epic Records) with famed Latin music producer Emilio Estefan Jr. and Stereo, Leftovers, Steamboat Live & Black Sky on the Vallejo brother’s own label VMG (Vallejo Music Group).

VALLEJO has toured extensively throughout the United States and Mexico sharing the stage with bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Fuel, 3 Doors Down, Juanes, Molotov, Black Crowes, The Foo Fighters, Matchbox 20, Shinedown & Los Lobos. The band has also had their songs featured in several TV shows such as HBO’s True Blood, ABC’s The Unusuals, WB’s Roswell, MTV’s Road Rules, UPN’s America’s Next Top Model & most recently MTV's Jersey Shore.

In 2010, VALLEJO released their unplugged CD entitled Acousta, which features acoustic renditions of the band’s songs throughout their career. Vallejo will release the 5-song EP Cinco in December of 2010 and is also currently in the studio recording new material with plans to release a new album tentatively titled, Brothers Brew in 2011.
