Universal Soundsystem was founded in the summer of 1999 in Copenhagen, by Benjah, Stunn Gunn, Zaki and Mystic MC. They where soon joined by hypeman Boom boy. Since then the sound has expanded with four new members Zulu, Fresh-I, Souljah and Cross MC…
Since the early days the universal crew has selected their own mixtapes, mixing dancehall and roots music. They play all kind of styles dealing with Caribbean music, from roots to ragga, from lovers to their favourite style dancehall. Mystic is not number one MC in Universal, many other MCs have passed through over the years. People such as Natasja(DK), Mandingo(DK), Cornstick(DK), Ldm(DK), Yardie Maroon(DK).
During the last 10 years Universal Sound has toured most of Denmark and the world. Universal has played practically every club in Copenhagen, venues like Loppen, Vega, Rust, Pumpehuset, Grå hal, Stengade 30, Ungdomshuset, RAW, The Rock, Roskilde Festival etc.
Universal Sound is not only to be found in Copenhagen. They have also played in citys like Berlin, Hamburg, Reykjavik, Stockholm, Belgrade, Århus and many other venues all over Denmark. They are also well known for throwing the legendary Splash bashments in Basement. Universal has played longside people like Eek A Mouse(JA)Gentleman (GER) Rebellion, Ohoi (DK) Ill Inspecta (GER), Bliglad (DK) Turbulace (JAM) Jah Mason (JAM), Junior Kelly (JAM) Silly Walks (GER) Safari Sound (S) Komposti (FIN), Trinity Sound (S), Stone Love (JAM) Demarco (JAM) ,Deadly Hunter(UK), Ward 21(JA), Cecile(JA), Jah Bobby(DK), Djosos Krost(DK), Sky Juice Sound(DK), Rubadub Crew(DK), Universal Strugglaz(GER) etc….
Universal Sound has always been supporting political and cultural activities like Reclaim the streets, Antifacistisk 1. maj, Christiania and many other events.
Universal Soundsystem is not only here to please the people. They are here to make the people sweat and whine, that's for sure!!. Whenever you come to a Universal dance, satisfaction is guaranteed. Universal Soundsystem is still the best and the most active sound in Denmark, leading the way in the new dancehall revolution.
