UNITOPIA - (yu-nih-to-pi-E): meaning living together as one in a place of ideal perfection especially in law, government and social conditions.
Based in Adelaide S.A., Unitopia endeavours to draw from the heart and soul of the listener thought provoking topics such as environmental awareness, political and social upheaval and the hectic pace of life and human relationships in a positive and uplifting light. Using progressive themes as a framework, Unitopia’s music includes elements of world, classical, jazz, heavy rock and groove.
Mark Trueack (composer / lead vocals / producer), Sean Timms (composer / keyboards / backing vocals / producer) and Matt Williams (guitars / backing vocals / producer) form the nucleus of the band. To complete the band, they chose the combined drum/percussion batteries of David Hopgood and Tim Irrgang, Craig Kelly on bass and Ian Ritchie (Roger Waters, Wham, Steve Hillage) on sax and flute.
They released a first album “More Than a Dream” in 2007 on Canadian Label Unicorn Digital.
In February 2008, Unitopia signed a worldwide publishing deal with Perfect Pitch Publishing and in August of the same year, Unitopia signed a 3 album deal with InsideOut Music, Germany, the leading progressive rock record company in the world. Unitopia are to date the only Australian band to have done so.
On November 18th, 2008, InsideOut Music released Unitopia’s 2nd CD, “The Garden” internationally to critical acclaim. The 15 track double CD firmly established Unitopia as one of the premiere progressive rock acts in the world.
Unitopia have just released their 3rd album “Artificial” worldwide through InsideOut on May 4th 2010.
Based on the themes of artificial intelligence, design and behaviour, “Artificial” consolidates Unitopia's position as one of the most exciting progressive rock acts to emerge since the 70’s.
The band just came back from a very successful European tour in October 2010. The tour brought them to the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. The critics were unanimous; Unitopia has been one of the best live acts on the Prog/Rock scene of the last 5 years!
Unitopia are active in their community by being involved in several causes such as Childhood Cancer and environmentally with the worrying situation concerning the bees.
As lead singer Mark Trueack says: Music is the doctor!
