Veteran r& b songwriter/producer Sid 'Uncle Jamz' Johnson has worked with superstar producer/writer/artist Babyface amongst others. The two collaborated as songwriters on two of the most enduring ballads of all-time, "Slow Jam" by Midnight Star, and "Two Occasions" by The Deele. "Slow Jam" was later covered by Usher with Monica on his 6x platinum MY WAY album (also included on the 2x platinum Sountrack for the movie SOUL FOOD). Superstar diva Mariah Carey used elements of "Two Occasions" in her mega hit "We Belong Together", which also won two Grammys this year. A few years earlier r&b group Next, used parts of "Two Occasions" on their mega hit "I Still Love You" from their double platinum album RATED NEXT.
West Coast based rapper The Game also recently did his take on "Two Occasions" on his tune "One Night" from his newly released album DOCTOR'S ADVOCATE. The album is well on its way to platinum status after going gold in two weeks. Southern rapper Plies just used elements of "Two Occasions" on his tune from the album Da REAList called "Want It, Need It" featuring Ashanti.
Uncle Jamz has been a part of several RIAA gold and platinum albums for such acts as: Midnight Star, The Deele, The Boys, Usher, Next and Mariah Carey. Has won several BMI awards for most airplayed songs, and three Billboard awards.
In a career that has spanned rock, funk, disco, jazz fusion, blues, soul and hip-hop, Uncle Jamz has worked with many acts over his 25 plus year career, including: Manchild, Babyface, Midnight Star, The Deele, Shalamar, Dynasty. The Whispers, Bootsy Collins, Ron Banks (of The Dramatics), The MAC Band, Lakeside, Renaizzance, D'Meka, KompoZur, Suthern Klick, Field Mob, Off Glass, Big Jim,The Boys, Usher, Monica, Mariah Carey, The Game and Plies featuring Ashanti.
Also serves as an entertainment consultant, having done lots of work for TC Entertainment. As an entertainment consultant he has done shows with Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Trina, Master P, Trick Daddy, 112, Ginuwine and Adina Howard to name a few. He also works closely with JJones Entertainment, a company helmed by marketing/promitions expert Judy Jones. Recently completed albums on Ole-E and Big Nod for Dirty South Entertainment.
Projects on the burner feature, r&b singer Zay; solo hip-hop artist Twelve (both from Indianapolis); also some collaborations with r&b singer G LaBeaud (whom in the late Eighties was discovered by Uncle Jamz in Naptown when they (the brothers LaBeaud: G. and Jimmy) were teenagers that had moved from New Orleans.
